Oh Lisa - the 'Still & West'!! Love it down there, we used to live in Portsmouth and my great aunties and gran used to sit outside there for hours watching the boats and ships!

I remember the Still & West from the days of my youth when I had a 'hair of the dog' on a Sunday!!! My local now is The Black boy, on the outskirts of Winchester, although we do try to find other 'old fashioned' locals whenever we go out.

When my husband and I were "courting" we used to think nothing of driving miles into the Buckinghamshire countryside for a picturesque pub that did real beer. We used to go to a pub in Northend, name of which escapes me, lovely drive through woodland where we once startled a deer and her fawn (well, they startled us too!). The landlord was called Frank and did pork pies from Yorkshire. Also liked the Goat & Compasses in St Albans. Now we drink either at home or in our local rugby club - good choice of real beer and the kids can run about outside. It's about 7 minutes' walk away, so is also our nearest bar. But I also like The Cricketers in Ickleford, about 10 minutes' walk in the opposite direction through a picturesque village, or a longer walk, on the other side of Hitchin, the Windmill at Charlton. It's beside a river and there are often ducklings and moorhens to see when you sit outside. They also do good food. H.

Have my drink at home where it's cheaper and in private! No we've no special local, they're all "local" wherever we are. Sylvia
