Louise Never had a endoscopy - but a friend has said the best thing to do is to try and relax. Easy enough for me to say - but hope all goes well. Liz

Louise, Ive had two endoscopys recently. You can be sedated or not its up to you. Either way they spray your throat to numb it first, the spray is supposed to taste like bananas but I dont know what it tasted like. Theres certainly nothing painful about it. Maureen

Louise - l have had one endoscopy and 5 colonoscopy's,l was sedated but was awake and watched it on the screen!!! One was uncomfortable, the rest were fine, its pointless saying you can't feel anything cause l did - but honestly no probs for me!! Good luck, hope all goes well for you and the results prove to be no problem. Jude sarf wales

Hi Louise I've had one, and agree with the other replies. I was given just enough valium to make me relaxed, then the back of my throat sprayed to numb it. It's definitely not painful at all, maybe just slightly uncomfortable. And it's over really quickly!! Hope all goes well for you, Mandy :)

I had one in January and was really terrified as I gag at the dentist and even can when brushing my teeth. I knew I would automatically fight it and was in a real state. I opted for the twilight anaesthetic. I had a small injection in the back of my hand and the next thing I remember I was in my bed on the ward. I had no sore throat or anything. Got myself really wound up for nothing. So you'll be fine. Good luck Dianex

jacky ,for me it wasn,t bad at all, just a bit uncomfortable as they put the dye in ,as for a bairn,i would think that they may sedate ,cause you have to lie totally still for parts of the proceedure ,.In very serious cases it might trigger a bit of trouble but it is very rare.I don,t think you need worry at all.hope all goes well for the bairn.Fred.

Louise, an endoscopy can mean either a gastroscopy or a coloscopy it depends which part of you needs looking into! The main difference is the preparation before. I've had a coloscopy & I used to be an endoscopy nurse, helping out the Doc. As I've seen it from both ends, so to speak, I am well placed to answer any questions you may have. Please feel free to email me direct. Sue

i had one done and they just had spray put down my throat.my advice when you have this done is try to relax and don't tense up.if you do it will only make it worse.i found if i focused on something in the room orthink of something nice like a holiday or a good memory it will avert your mind off of this.hope all goes well .keep us posted.x
