Wierd story from my father

I just feel in the mood to share this story. I have no idea what it means! My Dad's father Jeuel came from Norfolk. He ran a shop in Stoke Newington Church Street which did picture framing. Dad helped out as a young lad. This would be in the 1920s/30s. One day a lady came into the shop with a photograph of the king. She had been recently married and either her family or her husband's family were coming down from the north to stay with her in her new home. She was very anxious to create a good impression and wanted the photo framed. She made a lot of fuss about the frame and emphasized that it needed to be ready for collection before the visit. Eventually, after my grandfather had "Yes madam, no madamed" enough she left the shop. Jeuel then took the photo and threw it across the shop. It fell behind the office safe. This safe was very heavy and dad remembered it had taken 3 men to deliver it when it arrived. There was no way Jeuel could move it and retrieve the photo. Dad, a young lad who helped in the shop, looked at his dad in amazement. "She don't want no photo of the king" Jeuel snorted. The rest of the week Dad was on tenterhooks wondering what would happen when she came back to collect the photo. But she never did. Now how did my grandfather know that?! It has intrigued me ever since. Helen

thankyou for sharing your story. How strange that she never returned, i wonder if the safe was ever moved and what the person thought of finding the king stuck behind it. lol sandra
