I need to find the baptism of Kate Whittington born 16th March 1855 in Ore, Hastings, I have her birth certificate which states her Mother is Elizabeth Whittington formerly May and her Father is John Whittington Coach Makers Clerk. I cannot find a marriage certificate for Elizabeth and John so I presume her Mother just put that she was married to make it look better for her daughter. I have been told if I can find the baptism there may be more information about her parents also there could be a Bastardy Bond, Overseers Accounts or Vestry Minutes which may show that John Whittington had to pay maintenance. Can anybody help? Thank you, Maggie

Thanks Karen, I have Elizabeth in the 1851 she is living in hastings with her parents. I have her in 1871/1881/1891/1901. but hav'nt been able to find her in 1861 yet, she married a John Stroud in 1865 in London, so she is either in Sussex or London in 1861, have just received the 1861 census on CD for sussex but it is not surname indexed so it is a matter of trawling through each page - done about 500 so far!! I just need proof that John Whittington was Kates Dad and was told that if i look at the baptism it may say that Elizabeth was not married, or that a Bastardy Bond was taken out on him? Maggie
