Upped and left in 1969 because we were fed up then. Too many rules, no incentive for business, too many immigrants and too many strikes. Like Di we came to Canada. It has it's probems too but we wouldn't live any where else. Hubby arrived in July (on a Friday)- totally broke, started work on the Monday. I came in August, started work in September. Bought a house in 1970 and 160 acres of forest land in 1975. Sold the house in town in 1979 and moved to the land. Built a 2400 sq. ft log house from our own trees and farmed until last year. Never looked back. In 1980 came back for a first holiday and after 3 days I was ready to come home to Canada. Kids all made great lives for themselves, one farmed, one teaches college and the other has a business on Vancouver Island. As long as you have a strong work ethic you can't go wrong. At least here you have the freedom to choose, the freedom to speak, the opportunity to grow and make the kind of life you want. Wonderful views, awesome sunsets, Northern Lights, mountains, deserts, plains, wildlife and the chance to see them all. Best decision we ever made.

Hi I would love to see the world and travel, but i could never move away from Kent . I would just miss it sooooo much. Most of my family come from Kent even my ancestors were born and bred in Kent. When i find new relatives that may live on the other side of the world the first thing they say to me is ,i would love to visit Kent maybe in time live there. I like the thought that my family is all around me dead and living. It also helps a great deal when doing gen. Its not the best place on the Earth but it will do for me! Sarah

Clare, You will find your children will be speaking the language better than yourself. Children pick up languages so quickly. I would say go for it. France is a wonderful country. Good luck, Sylvia

I went to Brussels for four years, but does it count if I knew we were coming back? Jo.

At the mo it is but a dream, but one that is realistic! My only big concern is that i have 2 children under 5, how would they adapt in a school, no doubt they would but you cant help thinking. This country is going to pot, we arent allowed to smile in a passport photo anymore, whats next!?
