Margaret Seeing the way my mum is, its just terrible. So i do understand, as everyone must have a fear or be scared of something. Why so we have it, they say something always starts it off . However its not best to face your fears! Sarah

Hi When i was a very young child and any time there was a storm my mother would come in at night to comfort me. Then when i was about 9 , my mother worked in the fields picking fruit. It had been raining on/off all day, but my mum still went to work. Within a few hours a storm started up and my mother and others took cover in a small shed where they ate there dinner. They had been in the shed for over 10 minutes and then out of the blue a streak of lightening struck the shed, then hit the lady standing next to my mother. Now over 20 yrs have gone by and she is still as frightened now as she was then. Now she Knows when a storm is on the way. ( dont ask me how) When it starts to thunder and lightening ,my mother covers her ears, shuts her eyes. I know for a fact she would not go out in it . Everything thats electric has to be turned off. When it first happend mirrors and sinks had to be covered over with a towel or large cloth. However it seems she does not need to do that any more. So may be it does get better slowly. The only thing i found i can do is give her support as words do not seem to help in anyway. Iam very frightened of needles, i can not even see anyone else have them. Yet my poor mum has them twice a day and shes not bothered by them. Sarah

Joy i just wish that we all didnt suffer from these phobias but it is something i suppose we have to cope with in our own way.

you should see my missus and sister together in a thunderstorm, the first clap of thunder and its like watching two elephants feeding under the same tree, all you can see is two hugeeeeee rear ends sticking out from under the table .the last time ,it took me twenty minutes to get them both out with the help of my son.It sounds funny said like this ,but to see the look of terror on their faces is no joke,we all have fears of something or other ,and sympathy is the best medicine there is .The bright side for me is the cuddles i get in bed during a storm, and at my age it don,t happen often .Fred.

Just about everyone fears something more than usual, I hate heights and wasps, to the point of hyper ventalating and panic. If I see a very tall wasp I'm done for. Joking aside when faced with these I do not think rationaly. You are not on your own :)

I love a good thunderstorm myself, but that doesn't mean that I mock those who are frightened of them. The only thing I can say that just might ease Margaret a little is that once you hear the thunderclap the danger (what little there is) has passed you by. I, on the other hand, don't like heights - which may seem strange for someone who used to fly aeroplanes for a living.

Margaret, What, specifically, is it about the thunderstorm that you don't like, that scares you? Janice

As some of you know i am frightened of thunder and lightning but this evening it made me even more. We had to go out down to Folkstone very heavy rain on the way down, coming home a thunderstorm started i was so fighten hubby was trying to make jokes i was just sitting there eyes shut and shaking, i would have thought being out in it like i was tonight may have help me get over the fear of storms but somehow i dont think it has. I know being in a car is the safest place to be when there is a storm but that did not make any difference to me i just wanted to get home. Margaret
