I live in Kent and my family and i LOVE Gypspy tart, when my brother moved to Bristol he went into a bakers and asked for one and the assistant thought he was being rude, had to laugh when he told me.

It is wonderful! Yummmmmmy. I put a recipe for this on a school dinner thread a while ago (oops no sorry that was butterscotch tart!) It was my favourite pudding - along with chocolate sponge with pink custard! I went to school in South London and Surrey so it must be a southern thing! Sue

This is definitely a Kent dish in my opinion! All my in-laws (from Medway/Sittingbourne) love it and we had never heard of it! Maz. XX

This is the recipe i have for Gypsy Tart and it tastes just like what we used to eat at school (many years ago for some of us ) You will need a sweet pastry case 1 small can of evaporated milk left in the fridge for 24 hours Whisk the milk then add 6oz of light brown sugar and whisk again , it should be quite thick by then , pour into pastry case and cook at no a quater gas for 15 to 20 mins on the middle shelf when it will be firm to touch. Mmmm yummy just wish i had some now Margaret
