I just wanted to share my relief at finally being home after sitting in the car park known as the M25 for an hour, waiting for the police to clear the road. A horrible accident had blocked the road--an articulated lorry had crashed into the barrier along the hard shoulder, then slewed across three lanes of traffic, crashed through that barrier and down an embankment over-turning. I feel lucky to be alive as that lorry must have been only a few minutes ahead of me. Horrible. I only hope no one was killed or badly injured. I'd also like to complement the idiots who wouldn't wait and took the hard shoulder to get to the next junction, despite it being used for emergency vehicles to get to the scene. Why do people do that???

because Sally ,they are dumb muppets ,.six years ago i was driving south on that same road and came to a dead stop in traffic. we didn,t nove for half an hour because people were that busy slowing down and rubber necking at the accident scene that they brought the whole motorway to a stop..I,m just glad you got out of it okay and wern,t involved yourself.Fred.

Thanks everyone. Terri, I live just off junction 21a, but usually avoid it like the plague! Unfortunately, I've had to tackle the eastbound section twice in the last two weeks! Last time, it took half an hour to get over Dartford crossing. This time, it was smooth all the way to my friend's in Sussex (apart from the other car park--the A12!), but the way home was awful. Just felt relieved I wasn't a few mins earlier as I could have been involved in the accident. I too hate rubber neckers--I've even seen drivers leaning out of their cars taking photos of accident scenes!

No, Mommy, I am still in the south. Heading to Shields on August 29th. Bet I get their quicker on my lovely A1 than I got back from Hadleigh (only 86 miles away) today! Make sure the sun's out for me! What's it like up there at the mo? It's been gorgeous here today--hot but with a nice breeze.

We where driving across the Romney Marsh on Friday and the roads are quite narrow and bendy so you drive slowly .as we come to a bend a young lady decided that she wanted to drive straight down the middle of the road and did not get over as we appoached, how my husband got out of her way i will never know we swerved into the grass at the edge of the road only inches away from the dyke ,it rearly shook us up but she did,nt even stop.My husband has been driving for many many years and he said that was the nearest he has been to a head on crash.Someone above must have been looking after us that day, Val

Hi Jenny, Nice to have a real name for you! Mommylonglegs is a bit of a mouthful! I love Hexham! We used to go up there all the time for days out when i was little. I still treasure a little china beaker I got when I was 2 or 3, with Hexham Abbey printed on it! Also love Corbridge, Chollerford and Prudhoe Castle, all on the same run. Val, so glad you and hubby are ok. I know how you feel, today's incident really shook me up--I think cos I knew that artic must have been only minutes in front of me when it crashed, and if I hadn't stopped at my friend's for that last cuppa, things could have been very different for me. I was hit from behind six years ago. It was a minor accident really but my car was written off and I still have problems with my right arm because of it. My brother survived a bad accident years ago and gave me some good advice--"Never let an accident be your fault".
