Read this article in the last Sunday's Mail and thought some of you might be interested ....... COULD BLINKX SPELL THE END FOR GOOGLE? Thinks are looking a lot less rosy for the previously unassailable search engine giant Google. Not only was it brought to its knees by a virus last week for the first time ever, it's also up against its first worthy competition: the new free search engine Blinkx. And unfortunately for Google, Blinkx is so smart it's looking likely that we'll soon all be Blinkxing people instead of Googling them. Blinkx is a new kind of web search. It doesn't just search for internet pages, it also brings up relevant files, emails and documents from your own PC as well as up-to-the-second online news, and even digital TV from sites such as www(.)bbc(.)co(.)uk. And it does all this in the time Google takes to bring you up ten websites that may or may not be relevant to your needs. Even better, Blinkx is invisible. While you're working on anything - a Word document, say, or a spreadsheet or email - you can highlight words or sentences to have Blinkx root out material on them, or you can just let it work automatically in the background. Unlike Google, it's a software package in itself. Whatever you're doing on your PC, Blinkx will be there, out of sight, working for you. Let's say you were writing a work project on a supermarket chain and opened the official website. Blinkx would then automatically link to every web news story about it and find every video mentioning the CEO, plus any online writers who might have commented on the share price recently. Unlike Google, it doesn't search simply by looking for words: Blinkx scours for themes and ideas. It's the first truly intelligent search engine. No wonder Google and other internet giants such as Microsoft are working feverishly to create their own versions of Blinkx. thankyou 4 tellin us about the blinkx new site,,,ive just downloaded it and its looks impressive,,,,gonna take a bit to get used to though,,,

I will try it if/when a version for Win98 becomes available.
