When/how does a house become a home?

Is it about length of time, the people/animals who are there with you, memories, furniture, general comfyness? |

My wife and I bought our first house together in 1998. We lived their until last year - 2003 - so thats 5 years. We had happy times and sad times. However - it never felt like home. Our new house, which as I say we moved into last summer, felt like home on the very first night. |

Funny you should say that Paul, something similar happened to us. In our 20 years of marriage, we have lived in 1 flat and 6 houses; we moved into our current one nearly 5 years ago and it immediately felt like home. Although we were happy in the others, this one definitely feels different! Mandy :) |

ive recently moved into a smaller property,having lived in our family home for over 20yrs,the first week,i sulked,the second week,i hated it,but now over two months later,ive pulled myself together,the self pity has gone,and everywhere i go,i look for little things,that i think will look nice in the new place,its not home yet...it might never be,cos ive made up my mind to go back home to wales next year...but for now,it will do! bryan. |

It's when you put your heart into it and feel your happy relaxed and "at home" and alls right with the world. If you don't feel that then it's not home is it? Sorry to sound blunt, but our present house definitely is not home although we've lived here for the past 12 years. Hope you find it. Anita. |
