My eldest daughter contracted MRSA whilst working in a nursing home six years ago, as the barrier nursing was none existant she wasn't treated properly and niether was our family,Four years ago I had to have a major op and had to tell them about it I was given a wash that I had to use daily and when the op was done they gave me a cocktail of antibiotics straight into the wound. Last time I was in hospital I told them about it, they put me in a room on my own, then told me I had to walk through the surgical ward to use a tiolet. I have just found out my mother has it she also has to have an op. The surgeon who I saw told me that 90% of the country are carriers and most of them it will not effect. I know that that does not stop people worrying, it hasn't stopped me, I just thought I'd add it. Sue Just one more thing if you go to a search engine and type in MRSA then you can get a fact sheet about it

for anyone thats worried about passing mrsa,onto other people/patients heres a little guide! in every ward,there is a wash basin,there is usually an anti-bac dispenser to put on your hands to wash,so when visiting,please wash your hands....you are now safe...end of story,sounds simple,but thats because it is! bryan.

hi val I dont understand the do's and dont's of mrsa, my mother has been in hospital for 17 weeks and now has mrsa, I was told it is only a mild form and it is getting better but I thought there was no cure for this?, I started wearing gloves and apron when she was first diagnosed with it but now just wash my hands and put the alcahol hand rub on when I leave as I dont touch her, I dont know if its safe to take my grandchildren in to visit her , can anyone give me any advice please?. I hope your neice will be ok val and I hope you dont mind me adding this to your thread. jenny x

hi val im so pleased that tina is now home mrsa is treatable so try not to worry too much i work every day with elderly people that have it and they do recover:) at least the district nurses are coming in every day so they are keeping the wounds clean,which is very important give her my love susie

Val, that's awful, I always think it's really bad that you come out of hospital worse than you go in! Sending love and hugs to you both, and wishing her a speedy recovery. Mandy xx

hy val, sorry to hear this,about your niece,seems to happen far too often these days,specially when you think that just washing your hands,will stop the bug being spread. lets hope it is a mild case,and wish her a speedy recovery. bryan.

A few weeks ago i put a message on this board concerning my niece who was having a operation for Bowel Cancer. She had the operation on the 5th of July and it did not go to plan and she ended up in hospital for 4 weeks,She had to have numerious skin grafts,Since coming home she has been having a nurse come in every day to put new dressings on the wounds ,today they have told her that she has MRSA,but they think it is only mild she has to have another swob tomorrow.Just hope they are right .
