McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 18 Aug 2004 19:58

OMG! Now we've got Diane in Emmerdale with cancer! Dev & Sunita in Corrie, 'Dorothy' in Enders.........I know the story lines are intended to help awareness of certain issues, but why do they all have to copy the same format? I used to sit and have a good laugh watching them, a little bit of fantasy in an all too often grim world - where are those days gone :(

I have stopped watching all soaps, except Home and Away!!! Tricia

I used to watch them all religiously, but as you say it's doom and gloom most of the time. If I miss them now, so what. I do like to watch Home and Away too. They are all on too many times a week really. They have to keep the interest with these silly storylines. Those Ferreiras(?) should be definately sacked. Just the start of a very long list of well overdue ones. Diane

Julie

I only watch Neighbours as it's 20 mins of absolute nonsense but we've lost that because of the olympics!!!! Julie

I am sure that sometimes when there's an important issue the soaps are "influenced" to include it in their story lines. Whether they do or not is down to them of course and I agree that if they all do then it can make things tedious. But there are many people who don't read leaflets, watch the news etc and this is sometimes the only way to get through to them. Cancer is a really, really big thing and it is scary. But there is so much that people can do to avoid it - eat healthily, not drink too much, exercise, not smoke etc - and they might be keener to make the effort if they see a favourite soap character suffering the consequences of not doing these things.
