This time last week, I was just finishing off a delicious "traditional" Sunday lunch at the local pub in Cheshire. Now it,s back to a sarnie and a bag of crisps. How many of you still enjoy a roast and 2 veg on a Sunday?

hi carol, thanks for making my tummy rumble! now my kids have left home,i dont bother cooking a sunday lunch,just a sandwich..tonite i will have fish pie(done in the microwave)...but i have made a promise to myself,that if ime not working over xmas,that i will go mad,and cook a proper xmas dinner! bryan.

Hi Carol, Not many, most people are rushing around either with DIY jobs or taking children to various activities. The traditional joint of meat costs so much these days,too I can remember when I was a child complaining to my mother because we always had a full roast on a Sunday, and the girl next door had cheese butties and I wanted those, lol I never did get those sandwiches! Only when I go home to Mum. In the summer its too hot and in the winter we are madly dashing from children's rugby training to see Wasps play! I get all nostalgic for family roasts when I was a child and we'd be joined by an uncle (or more), but at the time I got narked that I had to lay the table while my brother didn't, and that my uncle(s) teased me and got the last roast spud! When I have roast at my mum's now, not only is it a smaller number round the table, but i also miss "Round the Horne" on the radio! nell

Having ours at 6pm but we have roast chicken, new potatoes, carrots, broccoli, sugar snap peas and sweetcorn today. We don't always have a roast but do nearly always have a cooked meal. (if really hot it's usually a barbecue.) Ann glos

My husband has cooked a chicken curry. With veg and roast potatoes on the side. We have a roast dinner about 3 times a year.m Hope everyone enjoys whatever they're having. Don't be so lazy Bryan, go and get a cooked chicken from tescos.lol They are lovely. You have to be quick they sell out really quick, from 1.00 onwards.

Now I,m really feeling homesick! Helen...Don,t forget 2 way Family Favourites. Used to listen to that while the dinner was being cooked. Lol

I do not often have a Sunday off - and some work either days or nights. I bring Sandwiches to work - just eaten corned beef sarnies. We do have a cooked meal when I'm off on Sunday and my fav is Roast beef an ALL the trimmings. (Anyone got a spare roast beef going - that they can deliver)? Liz

Carol - As there's just 2 of us, I don't usually do a roast. However if we have family visiting, I usually do roast chicken, lamb or pork with appropriate accompaniments! I like beef but not keen on small joints, you need a big rib to get the best flavour!

We have a Sunday dinner every Sunday, well at tea time! . . . . . no matter what the weather is, with Yorkshire Puddings and a bottle of red wine.

Hi Carol, It was great meeting you and your Mom. Yes! Love a good roast on a Sunday, but not in this hot weather. We barbeque every Sunday or should I say "braai" It appears that the summer is going to be short lived and i am not complaining. So, within the next couple of weeks I shall be making a Sunday roast again. Lamb or Pork in the oven with roast potatoes, rice mashed green beans with bacon onion and potato, sweet carrots, or whatever veg takes my fancy. A thick gravy made from the juices of the pan, I normally leave onions and a potato in with the marinate from the gravy. The delights of a Sunday Lunch! Lindy;-)

Yep, we're Sunday roast supporters. Usually roast beef with all the trimmings, sometimes lamb. Lashings of gravy, I was brought up as a Bisto kid! lol! Like Brian, washed down with a bottle of red wine (usually Oz). Theresa, hope hubby tasted good, was he the shepherd in the pie? lol! Brenda, a virtual dishwasher any good? lol! Hi Carole,I try to do a Sunday lunch as often as I can ,I moan about doing it but really love it when we can all sit down together.We used to have family and friends round(not all together)but lots of our family and friends work shifts that include Sunday so it does not happen much at all theses days.We usually eat our meal at 5/6pm so we can fit in other things during the day.Last night we had Beef(pot roasted),new potatoes, spring cabbage and cauliflower.Tonight will be cold beef and salad even if it is raining. It was nice to meet you in Manchester ,sorry about the weather. Brenda
