Thanks everyone. Hopefully the insurance will help. We need a new carpet anyway! My parents haven't a clue about interior design!!! Will be definitely one to tell the grandkids. LOL

Sorry to hear of your trouble, Chloe. I hope you are able to save most of your things. Even the sentimental items may dry with a bit of loving care. I hope you get straight soon.

The flood - I woke up at 6am. It was everywhere. We started bailing it out, but it was coming in faster than we could chuck it out. The main pipe had burst. Lots of fun. It was up to our ankles. Absolutely manic. Dad had no help from the water board, because they were only ipen from 9 until 5!!!! Dad managed to turn off our mains at about half 7. By then the damage was done. The carpet is soaked. We;ve used one of those carpet shampoo vaccum things but it will take forever to suck it all out and I dont even think it's possible. Dad found a decent plumber who fixed it for only £30!! Perfect! He was quoted over the phone over £90 per hour!! Not sure how much water damage there is to the furniture etc. A lot of sentimental things were ruined too. Clothes that Grandma had made for our dolls etc that was kept in the toy box in the cupboard under the stairs. It was mad.
