Jude Dog warden charges are cheap in Wales! Last summer my friend's 13 year old dog dug his way under her side gate and escaped. It was a hot day and she had left him the run of the garden and shed while she went shopping. He is a rescue dog and microchipped and has a collar with my friend's phone number on. She phoned all the local vets, the police etc to no avail. Finally a neighbour thought to ring the Town Hall and my friend was told her dog had been picked up by the Dog Warden (didn't even know we had one in Epsom!) and taken 20 miles away to a kennels because he was chasing cars on the main road. He has bad rheumatism and can't run anywhere! If my friend wanted him back it would cost her £150 because it was too late in the day for him to be returned that day. They had rung the number on his collar but didn't leave a message on her answerphone!?! They didn't even check if he was microchipped! He is on a special diet, but they gave him ordinary dog food which made him ill. They wouldn't even tell my friend where the kennels were and wouldn't accept payment over the phone. She had to go in person to the Town Hall and pay and the next day her dog was returned to her home. She knows now she shouldn't have left him in the garden, but the gate was newly fitted and padlocked and we still don't see how he escaped. When the time is right, I'm sure you will find the right dog for you, or they will find the right owners! Sue

Quick Update: Rang the dog warden this morning (well the enviromental people). The owners have contacted the Kennells - he does'nt know if they are collecting the dogs though and won't know for a while. They have been picked up before by the warden and kennelled!!!!!!! Why oh why do people have dogs if this keeps happening!!!!??????? makes me so cross:o( Anyways - so far its cost them £60 per dog and £5 plus per day per dog, good l hope they can't afford to pay.If they really loved those dogs they would have done something about the situation. They were such lovely dogs,so pleased to see people and play.Anyway will update if l find any thing else out:o( Jude sarf wales

As Sheila said, they know where to get some love. I think you have done the right thing, if you had taken Ty or any of the others in - the previous owner would always be around. and when you are ready - you will find a lovely dog to suit you. Liz

Update: They have gone, the warden came.Took awhile to get the female on board as she kept giving us funny looks and curled her lip, so we had to get a muzzle on and a man to lift her - guess what we waited half an hour for the man, when he got here he just said "come on then girl" she obliged by jumping straight in. They are off now to kennels where they will stay until the owners collect them or not. To collect them it will cost them!!!!! so far its £30 per dog, as soon as they were put in the van, plus £5 per dog per day. Lets hope the owners will start to take stock of their responsabilities if they take them back!!!! Jude sarf wales

Jude, Don't take him in just because you miss Lady. He could be a real problem with his owner living in the vacinity. Let the dog warden sort it and hope he is found a new home away from the area. If they don't rehome him you could always contact the rSPCA and say you think he is not being properly treated, they wont divulge your name. Ann Glos

For those of you who don't know me, l frequently have lost dogs striding up my drive way - at the weekend we had another, his name was Ty a beautiful black lab. l phoned the owners who really were not bothered - she said he often gets out and was (of course) not hers but her son's.Some months ago l had a yellow Lab here, l called him Cracker - he arrived with these same 2 Black ones and the police had had loads of phone calls because they were causing havoc on the dual carriageway. Well Cracker was found new home away from the area - the dog warden is on her way here now and hopefully she will take these to be rehomed. When the owner came on Sat she opened the boot of her car and told Ty to get in - he did, l was just gobbed smacked and went indoors in tears!!!! They are both filthy especially Ty, they have no nails,so thirsty - and oh what do l do,am l meant to keep Ty or??? if l do he could be hard to control and his owners would be around:o( Anyway will let you know the outcome!!!
