I love christmas, my husband is like Kylie's you only have to mention christmas and he gets stressed, he does'nt mind the boozy side of it though. lol

I think its all got a bit out of hand now, my gran used to knit dad a pair of socks and someone else a jumper etc and I would give her a bottle of californian poppy perfume, now everyone goes too mad, especially with food, I hate shopping in the supermarkets just before christmas because its too packed. jenny x

I can't say I like Christmas with passion - It brings back memories of my G Grandmother (Victorian attitude) telling me that Santa would not come to our house if I was not a good girl. She used to tell me that he did not come down the chimney but came up from the cellar - so as a three year old about a week before Christmas she made me sit infront of the cellar door for hours (just to keep me quite). Anyway I love new year - thats when I celebrate. Lin

For us, christmas is always difficult as both sides of the family want you to spend it with them and it's difficult when there's kids involved too. We have to see both sides of our family who live far away from ourselves (altho its nice to get away from doing the housework hee hee) but its the FITTING IT IN over the holiday period too as my husband doesnt get much time off so we usually get a couple of days at home with the kids. I also try and buy bits n bobs throughtout the year, but by the time its christmas they're 'out of date' with the kids so its usually a mad last minute dash. Now the kids are getting older and they are difficult to buy for, I get them to do a list out of the 'Argos' and post it to santa (makes it much better for us all around as its still a surprise for them and gives us clues as what to get without them fully knowing) aaahhh

We spend 364 days telling our wee ones not to go near strangers no matter how nice or friendly they are and THEN that last day we tell them to be good 'cos Santa will be coming into your room with pressies LOL!! Plus forcing them to sit on some old dodgy looking Santa's knee in the shopping centre LOL I love GRIMBO as does my husband ( who by the way is the biggest kid in the house at that time of year) not so sure how we are all going to be this year though as my grandmother came and spent 2 weeks with us last year and then flew home and passed away 11 days later. Not too keen on Xmas anymore, it always seems a stressful time, but we have eased it a bit by adults agreeing not to buy each other presents, just now buy for children, even they get so much that it becomes a problem. When you feel you need to be with 2 families his'n'hers, best to take it in turns, and if possible whoever you don't spend xmas with, then see them for New Year. Val

My mum died on 27 Dec and even though it's now 30 years, I have hated Christmas ever since. Now the grandchildren are getting older, they don't want presents, just money so I don't even have the fun of watching them open presents! Our solution - go on holiday for the Christmas week then come back and enjoy New Year! Lynne

As I put on the other thread, I really love Christmas .. but what I do hate is the way it's been commercialised. I do start shopping early but that's to fit round my health and job. I don't like to see the shops decorated with tinsel when we're still wearing summer clothes, and the way everything is so expensive but then reduced to half price on Dec 27th! And all that mad food shopping just for two days! Mandy :)

I like the idea of Christmas but rarely the reality! Hate the commercialisation of it, and my side of the family no longer buy for each other. I do like having a tree, cooking a special meal, and generally over-indulging!

I agree with you Mandy, it has just got out of hand, I went shopping last week to find they are now selling Christmas cards, it is such a long wait for children. I think people forget what we celebrate Christmas for..... It starts far too early, I am fed up with it when it does get here. Sue.........
