For my A levels I have chosen I.T, English and Geography. I have to fit these subjects into a 2-week timetable. The school cannot devise a timetable clever enough so I can be at every lesson when they are on. This means I have to go to English or Geography whenever I.T clashes with it on the timetable, leaving me 7 lessons short of I.T a fortnght. I'm considering dropping I.T so I can focus of the other 2 subjects but I shouldn't have to do this. Do you think its worth me going to a subject which I am already missing 7 lessons of, or not?

What could you do instead of IT?

Daniel

Daniel Report 7 Sep 2004 15:44

Nothing that wouldn't clash again.

daniel it doesnt matter mate. havent you seen the signs? look, student education prices are going through the roof, as are the prices of pot noodles and beans, the only food students eat! cant you see, the end of education is nigh thanks to this government. they want a whole nation of plumbers and sparkies and stuff so when bush and blair declare WW3 there's the workforce to do the jobs, not poncy achedemic types! also, have you noticed the hike in fuel prices? do you think the elderly can cope? thats the governments new strategy, no students or old people because they're a drain on the economy. all we, sorry, they want, is a nation ready to build new dreams! so to answer your quiestion, forget the lot, find a nice girl and enjoy the last few months of the free world!! oops, did i go off on one there! sorry!!

They would have done, but some only chose 1 subject and other chose only 2.

Daniel, although our system is different up here, this is the same sort of thing that happened to my daughter. In fifth year she didn't take her English higher as she thought she'd take it in sixth year. When sixth year came around she was unable to take it as it coincided on the time table with her advanced geography higher (which she really had to take as she wants to teach geography) Now she's having to do a year at college to get her English higher (as well as a few others she's taking) You'd think schools could sort the timetables out. Hope everything works out for you best wishes Christine

But Paul...Should I drop I.T or not. I'm inclined to let it go myself, but what does everyone else reckon.

daniel aren't you taking over the family business? why do you need quals?

I would imagine that it's virtually impossible to create a timetable that fits in with every single student's choice of subjects. We are all different and I am sure that there are too many combinations to satisfy everyone. Personally, I would not continue with a subject where I could not attend every lesson. It would be a bit like reading a book which had every other chapter removed - what's the point?

HI DANIEL one suggestion does the local college do an evening class in one of the subjects so you could manage to do all 3 a levels sandra

I have decided to speak to the head of the college for her opinion tommorow. I'll see what she has to say.

Daniel Shocking that you're having to even consider dropping a subject just because of scheduling. The question you have to ask yourself is... how much do you want to study this subject ? If you're really keen, then speak to the course tutor and see if you can arrange some additional hours of work. Bear in mind how much of the world revolves around computers these days - it's always a good subject to study (this coming from an IT professional who didn't take IT at school !). Good luck resolving your crisis Paul

Do as much as you can now and keep your options open as they say. It's often more difficult to study and have a job and have a family!

Daniel How big would the loss be if you dropped IT? can you get by without it. if not, and you can manage the workload do it & see how you do with the lessons you can attend. If it gets too much drop out of it on a later date. Remember its your decision not others who want to make the decision for you. Hope you find the right way to go. Elaine x :o))

Daniel

Daniel Report 7 Sep 2004 16:22

Night class? No, absolutly, no way. There are 19 lessons a fortnight I'm supposed to attend now, some, 4 hours a day. Couldn't manage an evening class.
