Im still giggling at the fantasy of sue trying to get two rotties in a carrier ,much less trying to pick it up,and i would love to have seen the vets reaction as they were both led into the surgery.talk about James Herriot.Fred,ptfg.

Maggie........made me smile - goes with the territory of being a vet i guess. Funny how you can always tell your own cats 'voice' tho isn't it?? :)

I took my old large ginger tom (did an incredible impression of a 'John Wayne swagger to chase off other cats) to the vets to have an abcess on his face drained - only the second time he'd been to the vets (the first was for the obvious). He had to stay in overnight. When I went to colect him, I was told he was so docile they didn't have to 'put him out', but in future they'd try not to keep him in - the reason? He'd cried all night ( I heard him as soon as I walked in) His 'upset' cry was like a constant Maaaama waaama, and he'd kept the emergency vet awake all night!!!!!!

My black labrador who I might add was a very placid dog 99% of the time, used to travel miles in the back of the car, he'd position his hind paws on the edge of the back seat and his two front paws on the top of either side of the back of the front seats thus having a good vantage point for the road ahead he was never a problem, and as good as gold, but if I had to take him to the vet (who was the kindest man ever), which was about a mile away he'd start off in the above position until I turned into the vets car park and then all hell would erupt it was the devil's own job to try and prize him out of the car I literally had to drag him into the surgery and the only reason he hated going there was the indignity of having a thermometer shoved up his bot that was all, he was a right woos. audrey

Actually Anne, although our cat was so sweet and loving we used to get complaints from one of our neighbours complaining that our cat had been chasing his dog again. Bit of role reversal methinks. Lx

Elf...........lol......dont think I'd mess with a mean looking ginger - especially not when he's in his least fav place lol. We had a ginger once - he'd lie in wait at the top of the stairs and swipe your ankles just as you stepped onto the landing. And he would chase you round the dining table like a dog.......

Know the feeling, our cat carries a warning on his medical card at the vets, it says CARE, He is their worst patient, I think!.. Bless him he is curled up, fast asleep on his chair..

The last cats I had (only got the one now) used to hate going in their basket. Year ago we had an old ginger tom (funniest looking little chap but so adorable) and we never had to take him in anything. He would sit on my knee in the car, I'd carry him into the vets and he would either sit on the floor or on my lap. None of the other animals bothered about him either. Lx

Mags Report 9 Sep 2004 19:29

The funniest thing that I have ever experienced was at a vet's. I suppose you had to be there but I will try and tell the tale:- All sitting round the waiting room, cats in cages, dogs on leads etc. but there is also a 'patient' carrying a cardboard box. Nobody speaks but you can tell we are all wondering what there is in there. At last their name is called and the box is carried into the surgery. We all look at each other.... Then there errupts (the only word for it) the most tremendous squawking and cackling - it was a CHICKEN!! We all burst out laughing. The surgery door opened, the 'patient' walks out still carrying the box and without a word or acknowledgement they left. More laughter! Magsx

hi, i have 2 rotties, and after they had an over the top 'play fight' one of them had a cut on her head . 3 days later it had turned into a bald area the size of a 50p piece ! took her to the vets after work on saturday t time. he said she would need to be sedated before he could do anything- mind you , if i had 10 stone of grumbling rottie staring at me, i would have done the same. came out with a little tube of cream, and 20 pound lighter [ would have been a bargain if it had been lbs and not £'s.] lol sue.think there is a moral here, ho yes, only keep one rottweiller, or maybe a goldfish instead !!!

Why is it that my two cats will happily fight over who is gonna sleep in the pet carrier, when I get it out days in advance of a visit to the vets.............but come the day, I have to fight tooth and claw to get either of them in the darned thing!! Then when the vet is finished, they are back in it whilst I still have it in mid-air from picking it up off the surgery floor :O Such fickle creatures they are!! lol
