This was always something I understood. However, I borrow a friends CD which let you sort surnames out according to region based on the 1881 census. there was also a facility which let you see how many instances of a first name there were. And there were a small number of Wendy. It puzzled me I must say. Maybe someone on here has a copy of the disc and can check that out. Jane

My aunt, born 1928 was always known as Wendy - but her real name was Verenia!! Maggie

Wendy was an invented name by J.M.Barrie for "Peter Pan" c1904. It would be interesting to find out the earliest recorded birth name......none in my family tree. Any input from our genealogical friends?
