Know what you mean, Kate. I also stop with the fathers unknown. And at least all those cousin marriages thin the ranks of ancestors. Brenda

I really think that the time to quit is either when you can,t go any further back .or when you don,t enjoy doing it any more.No matter which way i go with mine ,i,m having no success, but i,m still having a go cause i like it.Fred.ptfg.

Hi Wayne, I have over 7,000 names on my tree (not on this site it's too badly laid out). They are all blood or married to blood. When I got back to the beginning of Parish Registers I began to track siblings down the generations on PRs and census. A family tree is never finished because there are always more to chase. I'm leaving the Jones in Brecon for my retirement! Gwynne

Wayne, I too am not proud, and will put any little twig on my tree, if at some point there was a shared ancestor, then that is good enough for me. I have recently made contact with someone distantly related, the shared ancestor is generations back, but they then put me in touch with one of their cousins who had traced beyond the shared ancestor, so it is always worth persuing as I now have got back further and would never have found them on my own as they were originally from somewhere I had never even considered looking!!!

Rightly or wrongly (some purists will disagree I know) I stick anyone on that I find is related in whatever way. I concentrate on direct descendants but if I find information on siblings families I will add it in the hope that their little twigs will touch someone else's little twigs! Magsxx

Gwen, I think Wayne mean exponentially. LOL. Wayne, I think it's worth adding all the siblings and spouses of your direct relatives and their descendants too. They all share your direct ancestors too. I was contacted by someone who was related to my GG grandfather's brother recently and she has some photos of him. You never know what info. other people might have regarding your rellies. Crista

My ancestor tree has grown expotentialy as I Have proceeded back in time. When do you say I have followed enough of that line? I can understand going back in generations. but do 2nd cousins of 2nd cousins of ect ect realy matter? I now have 200 diffrent surnames in my tree and its becoming to much.... Wayne
