Genes Advisor Report 13 Sep 2004 09:43

Hi everyone, We would like to apologise for the site difficulties over the weekend. GR experienced a database problem which caused the site to shut down on Saturday evening. Our technical team worked all weekend on this and have now installed a new database server. The site should now be fully functional. If you experience any problems please email support. Thank you for your understanding, Michelle

Michelle, Thank you for letting us all know what happened. I do think however that the message that the site was down for "planned mantenence" was somewhat misleading in these circumstances - perhaps consider re-wording it in future ? Paul

Thanks Michelle. It was really bad wording to say, "restore very shortly". I and many others kept going back frequently to be greeted with the same message. Happy now though.

John, In their defence, it's often very difficult to say how long a piece of work like this will take - no doubt the team attempted to resolve the problem before deciding to install a new server - all of which takes time. Been there, done that, got the T shirt. Paul

John Report 13 Sep 2004 10:32

That's true. After a while would they realise it was going to take more than a short while (30-60 minutes) though? Doesn't matter now! :O) What size T shirt do you wear?!

BABZ... Report 13 Sep 2004 10:41

Hi Michelle Thanks for the explanation...glad its back now. For the length of time the site was down...maybe next time a blanket email to members could be forwarded? or would this be an impossible task (thousands of members) ...Babz

Thanks Michelle, i was nearly going to have a detox,!!! Wondering..Is it my imagination, or is it possibly that not too many people are into the site yet, but the refresh rate seems astronomically quick, this morning Bob

Apologies about the wording regarding how long the site was going to be down. It did take longer than we ancipated. If the future we will make sure the wording is updated. Thanks, Michelle

Joy, John...........Joy does your "kentish maid" refer to your birth place? By my calculations your reference puts you South-ish of Salisbury ( Always willing to be corrected!!) Bob...
