Earlier today I posted the lyrics to a comic song that contained a mild swear word. I received a request to change it, as it was offensive. I complied and changed it, however I was further told that there are probably lots more that would agree. My question is this - how many on here would own up to finding such a word offensive ? Given that this is supposed to be an 18+ site. Not wanting to stir things up, I'm seriously interested. Paul

Not me Paul, I live by an infant and junior school and the everyday language from those little darlings would teach a soldier a thing or two. So anything a gentleman says would mean nothing.

Paul Not knowing what the actual word was would make this thread difficult. Personally, although not actually offended myself, would not like to see strong language, as I respect that other people have different opinions and feelings, although the odd mild swear word would not bother me at all. Hi Paul, i have grown up in a home where swear words are not welcome- although now that me and my brother are now both over 18 we all speak a little bit more freely :-), but to swear in a comical song i do not find offensive, its a joke and thats how it should be taken....i have only ever heard my nan swear once and maybe my grandad once or twice, but both of them love Roy Chubby Brown, and stuff that he comes out with even makes me cringe- i know im babbling, but it doesnt offend me, and when its in a joke it shouldnt really offend anyone else. -x-

there are too many control folk on this board, if it was a mild oath, and there are plenty handed down from the saxon days then why as this become a problem.

Was this the Monty Python song Paul, from earlier, who requests these things to be deleted?..

yeah i think it was the monty python song cos you can see where he has changed the word- i just cant see how that word can be offensive.

You complied with the request and it should have ended with you doing this. there was another joke thread which had the word S.H.I.T. in. it was funny.It is only mildly offensive compared to most words in the English language of today. The word is used before the watershed on telly now, in many programmes, there are far worse things put in writing and put on the telly, that minors can see & hear. There was no further need for Paul to recieve anymore grief regarding his thread and to say that many people were offended by that word is unfounded...if it was gr would have removed the thread soon after Paul posted it. I dont think one word which is part of a well known song that has been doing the rounds for donkeys years can cause so much offence. Elaine x

Hi Paul No - I don't find 'mild' swear words offensive in the least on an site used by adults - I would class sh*t, p*ss, b***dy, b***er & b****cks as mild and don't really notice their usage. Personally I'm not offended by the less socially acceptable swear words (they are only words) but can understand that people are so wouldn't use them on here. It's difficult because some people are offended by blasphemous oaths which most of us use all the time. I'm much more offended by how aggressive, narrow-minded, moaning and judgemental people can be on here. Heyho:) David

I'm amazed! If someone were to post on one of these boards a comment requesting that xyz go forth and multiply, I could see offence being taken, but to be slated for simply repeating the words of a well known song is totally beyond me! Surely offensiveness is in the way something is said, not the words themselves? It's about time the pc brigade (aka the thought police) took some time off and started looking at what's really important in life.

Some people have obviously got too much time on their hands - perhaps whoever wasted umpteen minutes complaining would like to do something more constructive with their time - my housework for a start!!! Then I can do some more research! Maz. XX PS I went to see Life of Brian at the pictures when it first came out amid loads of controversy. Some people obviously STILL don't get it!

OK so NOT including the word, my attempt at subtletly, was obviously daft. The word was shit, used in the context "life is full of shit, when you look at it" (or similar). Elaine, no I wasn't getting grief as such, I was just surprised that someone would be offended by sich a trivial use of the language, and so asked the question. I really was just trying to guage opinion rather than defend myself or, heaven forbid, mock (sorry Linda, I won't mock, but we'll just have to agree to differ :) I too came from a home where swearing was, and still is, frowned upon, but even my father occasionally succumbs to a bloody or a bugger (or a shit !) lol.

I love that song and if I am feeling blue it always lifts my spirits and there is nothing wrong with that. Up the pythons ;)

paul, i agree it was nothing compared to what we hear every day lol. and i love that song too it always gets a smile even when i don't feel like it, especially yesterday lol. many thanks for the words. melinda
