I got back on Saturday and was so looking forward to getting back on here. What on earth went wrong?! Anyway, I am home and have had a wonderful week in Tyneside with my family. Got loads of new family info and some much-treasured heirlooms! I was given the beautiful, delicate memorial cards of my great great grandad and his two young sons, and my great gran's ration book. I also found the report into my Dad's grandad's arsonist activities (I kid you not!), and finally found my grandad's grave and laid flowers for him. My cousins and I then met Dad in Yorkshire for a fab week. It was, as always, stunning, beautiful and gorgeous! The weather was perfect, and I now have loads of photos to download, if I can find time between being on here, writing an essay, and absorbing the new family tree info I have! A GR friend put me in touch with another member who has traced my tree back to 1700! My great great great great great great great (PHEW!)grandmother had the wonderful name of Lettice Bird! Hope all of you have been well and happy over the last two weeks! xx

Hi Ann and Fred, have left a message on Northeasterners thread. Christine, I like that--King Bird! I can't imaging when i'm going to find time to add all my new relatives to my tree! Is there anything I've missed while I've been away? So much can happen here in a few hours, i can't imagine what can have happened since I was on 12 days ago! Were we warned about the going off-line thing? And is anyone else getting 'happy/genesreunited/error' popping up? And what was the point of the update? The site seems as slow, if not slower, than ever! GOT to go to bed now but will check in tomorrow. Nighty night! ;)

Sally, I got back on Saturday after staying at Tynemouth for a week and yes I got loads of info and enjoyed the fish and chips. I even got pictures of the Ferry how it has changed. I must say for the better. We probably passed each other isn`t it a strange world. Unfortunately the accent hasn`t been restored but most of my friends here think I talk Geordie anyway. Its not till you speak to the ones at home that you realise it not so strong. I got a wonderful photo of my mother taken in the 1920s which Im so proud of. But I want to go back already don`t you. Hi Sally, glad you enjoyed your visit up North. I love living in Northumberland and couldn't imagine living anywhere else (well maybe somewhere lush and hot would be nice lol). I'm very lucky and have a dene and the sea as the view from my house and couldnt imagine being closed in by buildings. Glad you've got your accent back and are now talking propa. Next time you're going to be up here, let us Northeasterlies know and we can meet you in the Toon. Sheila x

That would be geet lush Sheila! Mary, I love the ferry! My auntie lived in Waterville Terrace, North Shields, and we sued to get the ferry over then walk all the way up Borough Road to her house. We were exhausted before we got there! I love those old photos--you can see their whole life in their eyes, can't you? I am lucky to have been handed down a whole album full of family photos, plus my granda's love cards from the front in WW and his medals. I wouldn't part with them for the world.
