Daughter/son gone to Uni this weekend?

My daughter, Emma goes back to Liverpool uni on Sunday for her 4th and last year. Guess what I notice most when she has gone? That we have too many toilet rolls, she must eat the stuff! The house is also too quite when she goes back because she never stops singing! Maggy |

Hi Thank you for your thread, my daughter went to sheffield this last weekend, she is quiet with health problems and definately not a clubber, but she has managed 6 days so far, I do not know abour saving on phone bills as she is on the phone 3 times a day so far and I always ring her back to save her money Linda P |

Yes, Gwyneth, they do seem to return home - how on earth can they afford to live anywhere else? Property prices are out of this World - you need nearly £200K to get a 3-bed semi round here, crazy...........and we're not in 'posh' Ches. |

Just a word of warning. Don't think you will have more space at home, - it doesn't work like that! 2 of mine are living back at home at the moment, after their degrees. All the extra quilts, books, crockery etc are here not to mention all the toasters and a popcorn maker. Elbows in please as you walk around our house! On the plus side they can make lifelong friends. I travelled many miles to attend college, as a shy teenager but still correspond with friends made over 30 years ago. |

You will save on the phone bills and the weekly shop, you will find that you are looking for something to fill the washer up with and Now will start the red cross parcels and emergancy funds. Sue |

We took our daughter back to De Montfort uni in Leicester last weekend for her second year. She had a great time last year and we are all missing her (again) like mad! I'm glad she's enjoying it, though. This year she's renting a house with friends WITH A WASHING MACHINE so I don't expect to see too much of that coming home! |

Don't worry - they'll survive better than you think. It's us parents who are bereft.......my sister has just deposited her fourth offspring at Leeds Uni and confesses to a tear........... I was choked all those years ago when we left our (only) son at Uni, he probably thought - yippee! Can do what I want now! He wasn't very sociable within his own age group (he's married a girl older than him) and not a 'clubber' - I am sure he had some lonely times in those three years, but he survived and became independent enough to go and live in the States! He also did work experience for his middle year in Belgium and had a wonderful time! Cheer up, they'll soon be bringing home their dirty washing....and asking for money! Dilys |
