paul that's not harsh.everybody in this country gets n.h.s treatment but how many people pay national insurance.do you think it's fair that me and my husband should be paying for joe bloggs and his five children when he hasn't lifted a finger to earn his own money.unfortunetly free handouts are becoming quite a common thing in this countryxxx(:

Lisa... bit harsh that, but I do agree about tax bands etc

Lisa Report 20 Sep 2004 16:00

paul i think that people should take private healthcare out.if that was the case then they would only be paying for the mselves and the ones that couldn't afford it could be treated on the N.H.S.i here you saying how can that be fair but if we didn't have to pay national insurance only private healthcare then you are paying what you should rightfully be paying .for yourself.but that would never happen as people that claim asylum feel that the N.H.S is freefor all.but it's not as we are paying for it.when you go to some countries you have to take private healthcare out otherwise you don't get treated or you are billed.feel that this country should follow suit and give the healthcare for it's citizens rather than othersxxx(:

IF it ever happened - how much would a council charge to borrow one book from the library, to swim for an hour at the pool, to sit quietly in the park etc? No subsidies. Perhaps cost more than now?

Jane you have hit the nail on the head - they are all pretty much the same as each other when you get right down to it. I think most MP's go into it wanting to change the world for the better, but I bet none of us could do any better - because no-one gets to start from scratch, you have to work with what and who you inherit, together with the current attitudes. I think "Yes, (Prime) Minister" was probably more accurate than most of us can imagine, with the country really being run by the senior civil servants. Maz. XX

paul i agree you shouldn't have to.it's not fair.just like the income tax aswell.my husband has to travel to work every day up to heathrow which entails a trip of 150 miles a day.he works as a project manager which he has had to go on courses to get where he is today.now you get someone who is a low earner or someone that doesn't work who can get benefits and tax credit that can sometimes amount to what he gets paid to travel 175 miles and work 9 hours a day including a two hour drive which amoubts to 11 hours.then you get someone that sitson their a***e cannot be bothered to go and get a job and get paid the same.i know that some people cannot help but to be unemployed and those i am not knocking.but the ones that really get up my nose are the people like this man in the paper recently who has five children and will not take any job to provide for his children.all i can say to him and others that feel that the state are a bottomless pot of money.GET OFF YOUR FAT LAZY A***ES AND GO AND FIND WORK.your a drain to society!!!!!xx(:

Ah. now the problem is, if we only pay for what we use, then we're on the slippery slope towards private medical care etc too. Wouldn't advocate that.

Unknown Report 20 Sep 2004 15:45

I agree about the poll tax being fairer too, so long as there are appropriate considerations for those that can't afford to pay. There's only two of us here, why should we pay as more than the household of 6 round the corner just because our house is a little more expensive ?

i agree jane .most of us want the same thing.just think how better life would be and how well off we'd be.i think the first thing i would takle would be the asylum issue.that seems to be draining resources as there is no money coming in to pay for it.only the tax payers pocketsxxxx(:

While I agree about getting labour out of power I'm not sure the alternative is any better. I say get the people in power! Jane

Lisa

Lisa Report 20 Sep 2004 15:14

maz i can understand that but don't you think that labour are taking the p**s.how can you justify a householder paying another five hundred pounds a year.it's daylight robbery.you wouldn't mind so much but where do you think the moneys being spent.not where it should be spent and that's the people who are paying their taxes!xxx(:

Lisa

Lisa Report 20 Sep 2004 15:11

not just the council tax that's going up.so are the morgage rates.we want to move our morgage over and get a cheaper rate .the only option we have is have a fixed rate morgage for two years at six hundred and forty three pounds a month .if we go for the variable,we were told they are looking at the bank of england putting the morgage rates up as much as five per cent.i am sick of working to pay high taxes.,higher morgage rates, water rates, gas rates ,electric.why is it as soon as one company says we're put up your bills they all follow suit.what do they think we are made of money!!people should stand up now and say enough is enough.!!!!xxxx(:

wouldn't mind so much if they spent the money wisely, half of it seems to go into a bottomless pit by the way, YES the tories brought in the poll tax originally (or should we say re-instated it, poll taxes go back a long way historically), but which coucils seem to waste the most money ? labour...

Who was it who abolished the rates and brought in poll/council tax in the first place - a certain woman I believe. There are a lot of people with very short memories. Maz. XX

hi fred only been on here for half an hour and moaning already.my husband has said that if a labour candidate arrived on our doorstep he would have a bucket of water ready for them.sod the concequences.he feels that strongly.it's not just us that will be struggling we all will and the pensioners will find it differcult to pay.we need to say no more.there bleeding us dry.we're not living we're existing.lets all not pay and go to ten downing street and protest.xxxx(:

read in the paper that the council tax is going up again .a hundred thousand pound housewill come out of a band c and they will be paying band d rates.the price of our house is one hundred and thirty thosand pounds and we will expect to pay fsixteen hundred pounds for the year which i find totally unacceptable.now the goverment have given councils the power to charge what they like they are ripping people off.i say that the people in this country should protest and refuse to pay it.if every citizen done this then they could not throw everyone in prison.also to stop this the answer is to vote and get labour out of power once and for all.this cannot go onxxxx(:
