Thanks Margaret, I love Stockton market and the thrift stores in the High St, I buy so much stuff I dont know how I get it home it takes me all day to shop because everyone is so talkative I just love it....Fred I hate to move if ever I have to move again it's going to be to the seaside and thats it. I'll google the goosies and find that recipe...Thnx

Hi Faith I looked on yahoo and found a recipe for Rustic Chocolate Torte with Cape Gooseberries.Its too long to put on here but looks very special. YUMMY. Im glad you like Northerners were such a friendly bunch.I used to like Stockton market on Wednesdays but I live in NZ now so havn't been back since 2001.I was born in Middlesbrough and have friends here from the Midlands also a friendly lot Margaret The name of the search engine keeps being omited sorry if you cant find it.You will have to e-mail me

We live in east denton at the moment Faith ,but will be moving shortly to west denton ,about two miles ,from the city centre of newcastle,there are quite a few members around this area ,and it seems a few of us have caught the urban disease called moving house lol.Fred.ptfg.

Thanks Fred, I remember we always had dried figs at Christmas I never had a fresh fig until I moved here, my friend has a tree so I take a load and make preserves wonderful stuff,are you up north in Newcastle? I spend a lot of time in Stockton when I come home for visits, I love the north well the people, I'm from the midlands, but I must say nowt like a cup of yorkshire tea. Take care..

Will do Faith ,i think the season is pretty short here ,but we have one greengrocer here in newcastle who deals a lot in what you could call exotic fruit so i.ll havea look when i,m in next.I tried some fresh fig last week ,and they were nice.Fred.ptfg.

MMMMmmm crumble, I'll have to try that Fred, would you be so kind as to let me know how much they cost, I'v never seen them on the American Market, I may be in business here LOL...Yes they do seem to thrive and this soil is sandy and of course I'm high desert so it's arid, maybe they are indigenous to hot climates....Thanks Faith

Faith ,you have just answered an unspoken question of mine.When i had a large garden a few years ago ,i tried growing some of these in my greenhouse and wondered why they gave me plenty of leaves .but nothing else. I think it must be something to do with the soil.I love all sorts of crumble ,so i may get some from the town and try them out.Fred,ptfg.

Thanks Val, they seem to love my climate[Arizona] I put some in a few years ago and they now self seed, I always have more than I know what to do with...

Lovely, you can use them like ordinary gooseberries in a pastry pie or fruit crumble. Add them without cooking into a tropical fruit salad. In posh restaurants here they use them as decoration on salads etc. with their husks peeled back but still attached. Never had enough of them to make jam. Val

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY GOOD RECIPES??? I MAKE JAM WITH THEM ANY OLD FASHIONED PIE RECIPES I'D LIKE TO TRY DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH THEM...THANKS...FAITH
