Ann Sorry to hear of your suffering. I myself am trying to do my flat up to sell - but firtunately I pnly have one neighbour so to speak whos below me - and she says as long as I dont hammer on the floor when shes home she can cope with anything else. Which is lucky as I flooded her bathroom AND kitchen within weeks of moving in two years ago (I'm a slow worker!!! hence the time its taking) But - what I really wanted to say is - have you contacted your councils Environmental Health Department about it? They have an obligation to deal with noise complaints AND what they call Neighbourly Disputes. I had to raise a complaint about the pub over the road from me being too loud. The owner said as I was in the attic flat I couldnt possibly hear anything up there we even had a stand up row in the street one hot summer when he told me if I didnt want to hear the noise I should shut my window. But he changed his tune when I rang the cuncil and put in a proper complaint AND I called the police and had them come up to the flat and listen to the noise. He's since had to soundproof and once even caught him smiling at me as I walked past. If you have raised a complaint about him it will also affect his ability to sell as, if the purchasers are smart enough to ask about relationships with neighbours, he HAS to tell them there is a dispute. In the long run this may affect the price he gets. Alternatively I'd wait until he's holding viewings, buy some ACDC or megadeath - put it on full volume with the speakers up against his wall and you go out and have a nice evening visitting friends safe on the knowledge his buyers will be running a mile. An old mattress or bags of rubbish in the front garden can also have the same affect.

Saw the programme, too. I have always lusted after an Art Deco style house, exactly like that one. BUT , were I to have enough money to buy it, I would have ripped out the hideous decoration the arty farty one put in!!! Surely when developing a property you must decorate to appeal to the masses and in keeping with the period of the house, not to your own personal, individual taste!! Love this series, because some of the people are SOOO stupid!!

Ann - we moved into a shell twenty years ago and had builders in for at least three months which, being a semi, must have driven our neighbours wild, I felt for them at the time, especially as I was out at work part of the day....but anyone tried asking a builder to keep the noise down? It's like asking a baby to stop crying! They (neighbours) became friends so it turned out OK, hope your new neighbours are considerate and amenable! What it must be like to have really noisy inconsiderate neighbours, I just can't imagine...........

I think they managed to destroy the whole period feel of the house inside. It could have been made stunning on half the money they spent. Hope they do a follow up - would love to find out how long it took to sell and whether or not they had to tone it down a bit to do so. Magsx

Ann I know what you mean. My neighbours moved in last year when my boys were under a year and 2 years old. They don't work (as far as I can tell) but would think it appropriate to start hammering and drilling at about 11pm! My hubby had to go round a few times to ask them to stop. Thing is they had a baby similar age to my youngest so how he slept I'll never know! and about property ladder - what AWFUL decorations!! How they seriously expect to sell that I'll never know. and £1000 for 32 tiles! More money than sense!! I bought tiles for my kitchen and they cost about £30! Joanne

What these programmes don't tell you is what it is like living next door to a house that is being developed- our neighbour is a property developer and he has been drilling, clanking, hammering, generally making a dreadful noise from about 7.30 in the morning until about 6 in the evening- 7 days a week-since about July. I am getting so fed up , sometimes it sounds as if he is in the same room it is so loud. I have tried appealing to his better nature, especailly as we have a young child who still naps during the day, but he is not planning to live here so he does not care about building up any good will with his neighbours. I almost hope that the property market crashes and he loses all his money- just to be spiteful- but then we would just be stuck with him forever!!!

A new series of channel four series Property Ladder is starting just now. It amazes me how many people will NOT follow the advise of the presenter Sarah who is very successful herself. Seems like they are determined not to make a profit! I'm just off to watch it now! Joanne
