Doesn't really affect me, I don't have room for chocolate after 2 steak and kidney pies with a double portion of chips and peas.

Totally agree with Rosemary re " a nanny state " People should be able to exercise moderation . I often buy a biggie choc bar but it doesn't go in "one felled swoop " No-one has a gun held to their head whilst they eat . Some people are just plain greedy , usually for ket (rubbish food !) Joyce ps my dogs always try to greed choccie from me so I have to be sneaky

Lisa, I take your point, I really do, but we have to take responisibility for our own actions sometimes... the government can't be held responsible for everything - they're there to run the country (whether they're doing a good job or not, I'd rather not comment on, bl**dy politics gets on my nerves), not to run our lives. *I* choose what I eat, what I drink, whether I smoke or exercise or not - not Tony Blair.

yeah you do have a good point aswell paul, i have never been the healthiest of kids, im not really into sweets and biccies i love veggies and salad, but i do also love my take aways and chips!! i do also need to lose 2 stone! but i think that if schools get kids into sport more now, then they will get into the swing of working out and carry on doing it when there older..if u get what i mean...-x-x-x-

yeh, my sister ruby is a huge chocolate, biscuit, pizza, crisps fan! she was very ill at the age of 2 with menigacocal scepticemia (however you spell it!) and we nearly lost her, she had lost so much weight we had to actually give her choccies and sweets and healthy food to pull her weight back up again...now she loves everything bad for you, we all have to watch what she eats, although she doesnt actually realise that we do, obviousley she is only 9 and we do not want her to think about her weight at all let alone when she is just 9, we dont let her sit in front of the box all day, i make sure she comes out with me and my fella for a saturday once every 2 weeks (normally spoil her rotten and take her to london museums etc) Her school dont bother much with sport at all, she hasnt even got a netball team there, and i was playing it at 7! and now that the winter is coming and nights are darker we dont let her go out on her bike in the evenings, whats she supposed to do now??

So what you're saying then Steph, is that things aren't worse now than whan you were at school ? I do agree that there should be more sport in school.. and competetive sport too, there were no school teams when I was at school, and we need that competetive edge to produce the next generation of sportsmen... but... My opinion is... and I'm sorry this disagrees with a few others... that people are all too quick to blame the government. The onus to keep kids fit and healthy should be on the parents. After all, if the gorernment, gets too involved, people will refer to if as a "nanny state" won't they... oops too, someone already did :D

Lisa Report 29 Sep 2004 12:28

hoorah.someone that agrees with me.i think aswell that the parents should play a part if they can in diet and exercise and stop there kids from sitting in front of the box all dayxxxxx(:
