its not fat people who only eat chocolate paul, skinny people eat it too, its just if you want one, two three, have em. cutting the size or putting the prize up aint going to stop people buying them, and in my experiance those as dont get just binge when they are offered or do get , its like forbidden fruit, im sure if someone says no you not having it , youd want it more wouldnt you?

yes you would have more.i think the goverment are too late worrying about it now as this should have been dealt with ages agoxxxx(:

Lisa

Lisa Report 29 Sep 2004 11:15

maybe alot of people are buying junk food because they can't but fresh fruit and veg as the goverment are squeezing all of our money out of us in taxes and other thingsxxxx(:

Lisa, To put the cat among the pigeons as usual... You give a very mixed arguement at the moment !! One moment you're saying the government shouldn't get involved. The next you're saying they should have dealt with it ages ago. As for the price of fruit/junk food - I don't think that arguement holds water in this particular example. I'm sure an apple isn't more expensive than a mars bar. a mars bar is just nicer (yes, I eat as much rubbish as the next person, I do however agree with them getting rid of the king size bars, it just removes/reduces temptation - I'm very conscious at the moment of being unhealthy, and trying to make an effort :) Before you repeat yesterdays comment - I'm not having a go... just expressing a different opinion :) Paul

you wanna bet paul.take for example my daughters school.goverment and the education authority are trying to promote healthy eating in schools.lets take an example.an apple at her school is 60p where as a sausage roll is ten pence cheaper.a packet of snack a jacks are 65p where as a normal bag of crisps are 35p thats a difference of 30p.between your fat filled food and your healthy option.the education authorities are not doing enough with more sports lessons and cheaper healthy food.when my daughter went to her juniors school she only had P.E once a week and they also sold junk food rather then healthy and they didn't promote after school clubs.that is when children should be taught about healthy eating and exercise ,rather than later on in life.and the comment about me changing my mindabout whether the goverment should intervene i feel they have left it too late and the only reason they have step in is because the health authorities have stepped in to address this problem to themxxxxxx(:

OK you have a point there. with regard to prices at the school. surely the answer would be to buy the food from the supermarket and take a packed lunch ? Just a question... how much sport do they do at school these days ? Incidentally, yes I really am a hypocrite, I ate nothing but rubbish yesterday lol

Lisa

Lisa Report 29 Sep 2004 11:59

so did i paul.5 curly whirlies which i bought in gunwharf where i live.well i bought 12 .maybe i'll eat them all today.you wouldn't think that i am ill.haven't eaten much for four days.alot of schools don't do alot of sport.and as for the packed lunch my daughter does take packed lunch but likes to have dinners now and again not often.the schools have no reason to charge priceslike that.there not setting a very good examplexxxx(:

Unknown Report 29 Sep 2004 12:16

oh now come on, you can't just say they "don't do a lot of sport". how much is not a lot ? When I was at school, I think we did about 3 hours a week. BUT I was always quite active outside of school, always out on my bike etc (but I was still unfit lol).. I think thats the difference these days, kids spend too much time on playstations and computers and watching the TV... you can't blame the government for that now can you (I bet you find a way to lol) ?

Lisa

Lisa Report 29 Sep 2004 12:18

twice a week (two hours which i feel isn't enough.my daughter does things out of school and i am ashamed to say is fitter than me.xxxx(:

Stephanie Report 29 Sep 2004 12:25

sorry but i have to comment!! when i was at school i loved sport, apart from hurdles!!lol, but i only did two hours a week in lessons and other than that was in the netball team...i wasnt allowed to do more sport until i reached the 4th and 5th years, where i was allowed to do it at lunch times...yeah i used to go out on my bike when i was alot younger but cos of money i didnt have one when i was at seniors nor did i have the money to join any clubs or gyms, so i think maybe the schools do need to do more!xxx

Lisa

Lisa Report 29 Sep 2004 12:28

hoorah.someone that agrees with me.i think aswell that the parents should play a part if they can in diet and exercise and stop there kids from sitting in front of the box all dayxxxxx(:

Unknown Report 29 Sep 2004 12:37

So what you're saying then Steph, is that things aren't worse now than whan you were at school ? I do agree that there should be more sport in school.. and competetive sport too, there were no school teams when I was at school, and we need that competetive edge to produce the next generation of sportsmen... but... My opinion is... and I'm sorry this disagrees with a few others... that people are all too quick to blame the government. The onus to keep kids fit and healthy should be on the parents. After all, if the gorernment, gets too involved, people will refer to if as a "nanny state" won't they... oops too, someone already did :D

yeh, my sister ruby is a huge chocolate, biscuit, pizza, crisps fan! she was very ill at the age of 2 with menigacocal scepticemia (however you spell it!) and we nearly lost her, she had lost so much weight we had to actually give her choccies and sweets and healthy food to pull her weight back up again...now she loves everything bad for you, we all have to watch what she eats, although she doesnt actually realise that we do, obviousley she is only 9 and we do not want her to think about her weight at all let alone when she is just 9, we dont let her sit in front of the box all day, i make sure she comes out with me and my fella for a saturday once every 2 weeks (normally spoil her rotten and take her to london museums etc) Her school dont bother much with sport at all, she hasnt even got a netball team there, and i was playing it at 7! and now that the winter is coming and nights are darker we dont let her go out on her bike in the evenings, whats she supposed to do now??

Lisa

Lisa Report 29 Sep 2004 12:41

the goverment have got alot to answer for though paul.and the education system is one of them.not forgetting the N.H.S that is in a total shambles.what are the goverment.there here to represent the country and to give us a better future and service.can you really say they are doing that.xx(:

Stephanie

Stephanie Report 29 Sep 2004 12:42

yeah you do have a good point aswell paul, i have never been the healthiest of kids, im not really into sweets and biccies i love veggies and salad, but i do also love my take aways and chips!! i do also need to lose 2 stone! but i think that if schools get kids into sport more now, then they will get into the swing of working out and carry on doing it when there older..if u get what i mean...-x-x-x-

Lisa, I take your point, I really do, but we have to take responisibility for our own actions sometimes... the government can't be held responsible for everything - they're there to run the country (whether they're doing a good job or not, I'd rather not comment on, bl**dy politics gets on my nerves), not to run our lives. *I* choose what I eat, what I drink, whether I smoke or exercise or not - not Tony Blair.
