First time I ever experianced trick/treat was when we moved from Liverpool to Cornwall 22yrs ago. Couldnt beleive it, but it was all really friendly with no trouble. My Husband is Scottish and he said they used to do it in Scotland when he was a kid , but it wasnt a case of just knocking on doors and demanding sweets, they were invited in and had to peform , a song , poem, dance( the trick) before they were given the treat. He said it was great fun .Another Scottish relly insisted on taking her kids back home evry year from Liverpool so they could celebrate halloween. most of the kids who knock are okay, but some hardfaced little mare last year tutted at the sweets I gave her and walked away complaing, no thanks or anything. Never would let my kids do it though, always had Duck apple, chestnuts and games at home for them Kathleen

In Stirling you dont get trick or treaters coming to the door they are guisers... they dress up the same way but they have to sing a song or tell a joke or something and then they get a reward. Now living in England my little ones go out dressed up but only to the doors of neighbours and friends, accompanied by one of my elder children. I sit at home with a bag full of lollies and sweets to throw into the bags of any trick or treaters that come to our door once my bag is empty I stick a notice that says 'sorry all gone' No-one actually knocks after that and I havent had any trouble at all. The local teens do sometimes knock my door too and they also get a 'sweetie' its become a bit of a joke with them now and I get nothing but respect from them. Sharon :-)
