as you all know i live in portsmouth.the tricorn centre was built in the sixties and after deliberation and protest to leave it standing they decided to demolish it which they are in the process of doing.they have been faced with many problems by doing this which has cost the taxpayer alot of money.first it was the rat population which they said there were thousands living under the tricorn in the nooks and crannies.then there were the threat of asbestos which as you well know has to be cleared by specialist.but the biggest threat to the city were world war two bombs which had been imbedded in the gronud for 60 years when the germans dropped them.it was only a few years ago when they had to get the bomb disposal team out when a bomb was discovered by workman digging up the road and had to be made safe.they say that there are alot of bombs undergroud that are still live and a danger to us all around portsmouth.maybe i should move!!!xxxxx(:

Don't come here Lisa! Sorry. That's not meant to sound horrible but we went to a special event at Dover Castle on Sunday with World War 2 exhibitions etc. When you see the maps of enemy aircraft activity you wonder how many undiscovered bombs we have around here too. It was known as Hellfire Corner. Perhaps we should both move away somewhere!

Hi Lisa I can understand what you mean. I think last week in Southampton they uncovered a load of them, I dont watch the news much so dont know what came of it. I remember a few years back My Grandad kept Pigs in Eastleigh. And they discovered a unexploded bomb and the army came in and everyday for a week he had to be escorted twice a day to feed the pigs. He was on the Meridian news everyday for a week it was scary but it was fun watching my old grandad on the Telly. Debbie

I live on the Isle Of Portland, and about 10 years ago we had to have a mass evacuation of the island because a bomb had been found on the Football field !! It doesn't bear thinking about, the islanders had been thundering about from end to end all over it since the war. When I was very small we had a stray bomb hit the local school. Now I had started school the previous day and was none too impressed with it,so I thought this wasn't such a bad thing really Rose

I live in Southsea too...when I was about 12 my brother and I dug up a six inch shell on the beach by South Parade Pier, we were so PLEASED with ourselves and carried it home to show mum and dad.....who called the police....who had to get the bomb disposal people to come and get it and blow it up at sea. Major telling off by all..... Julie Rusby
