I'm off work ill at present but as I'm on pay as you go internet I only get to use the net after 6 as it would be too expensive prior to then - how do you others manage to access the site during the day without it costing you a fortune? Maggie H

Signed up to Wanadoo Broadband - various prices you can pay monthly with no extra charges - pay as you go is toooooo expensive. I work during the day and can only manage about 2 hours a night - my fee is 17.99 a month with hours restricted to 50 per month which suits me - check around there are some good offers at the moment as BT has reduced internet charges

BT Broadband - wonderful invention, don't know how I managed with dial-up! You can get different deals with different ISPs, so it's worth shopping around. Mandy :)

I was on 'pay as you go' with Blueyonder when I first got on-line many years ago; then I progressed to surf unlimited dial-up - which was about £14 a month. Now I am on Blueyonder Broadband with Telewest - they have 3 different speeds at 3 different prices - I pay about £17 a month for the slowest but its speed is fine - darn sight quicker than dial-up :) Can highly recommend upgrading from pay-as-you-go for sure!

Which speed are you on Sharon, I seem to be paying more than you!..

I'm on a package deal with Telewest, which includes my cable tv, unlimited phonecalls to anywhere in UK and unlimited surfing on the net. Still on dial-up though and thats 54 pounds a month. Christine

Hi Was on Freeserve Pay as You Go, then switched a few years ago to Freeserve Anytime (now Wanadoo), just in the process of switching to Wanadoo Broadband. Will cost 17.99 a month and is up to 20 x faster. Well worth paying for. Joanne

But then I pay £12.99 a month to one tel for unlimited uk calls and I dont have to re-dial after an hour plus calls to Australia etc are only 3p a minute

Thanks everyone - all info gratefully received. I'm with Tiscali - dial up - I didn't think I would be using the net that much, just for e-mailing Mum overseas (cheaper for her than post) and then I started the family search and found this site and you good people and can't stop reading the message boards etc as well as other sites searching for family!!!! I think I'm going to take a good look at broadband/monthly charge ones as you've suggested as pay as you go may get rather expensive. Presumably you can alter what you choose for hours of use once signed up - when I get back to work I will only be using it in evenings anyway oh and weekends. My other half is becoming a Genesearch widow!! Thanks again Maggie H

NTL dial up unlimited £12.95 a month. Hubby pays for cable and phone separately. Same as Shelli, can't make or receive phone calls when on net. People phone and text my mobile and swear at me! Viv

LOL..... Maggie, maybe someone should set up a genealogist widow/widowers united.... My other half says he's been one for ages and he said that when he is dead I'll probably take an interest in him then!!
