A couple of years ago our cat Holly was hit by an air gun pellet, luckily it was easy to get out so only a surface wound as she has thick fur. We tracked down the lads who hd done it as theyw ere shooting the gun in their back garden over the back from us, about 16years old. We told the police and they went and had 'words' with the parents and we never saw or heard the gun after that so i assume they confiscated the gun. But this one is horrendous as it sounds like a sustained attack. Poor little thing. ann Glos

Glenys the Menace! Report 1 Oct 2004 17:25

Hi Christine, I was sickened to read about Smokey, and as I type I have our youngest feline Laird, Topsy, curled up on my lap. One of our other cats, Midge, was shot a couple of years ago with an airgun. It was about 10.30 p.m. that he came home, bleeding. We rushed him to the vet, who said that the pellet had missed his spinal cord by a tiny fraction, and it was a miracle it had missed it. This, in addition to being abandoned as an unweaned kitten on a cold and windy Tor in 1997, made us even more angry towards the scum who had done these things. And when I hear that "animals are just animals, humans are more important",* are those human scum more important, after what they've done? Ooh, it gets me knickers in a twist, it does! Poor Smokey, hope he recovers - I hadn't heard the news. Glenys. P.S. * I've heard this said when dealing with injured animals!

How sickened it makes you feel, after just hearing on the news that a poor cat, called Smokey, has managed to drag herself home on three legs, with the owner thinking she had a broken leg, took her to the vets, only to find on an x-ray, that she had been shot 21 times in the other leg by air pellets.. why, and who on earth would do this?.
