Hi Paul, I'm not on chat so much now as I'm either at work or I've been decorating, When I do get to go on chat during the day nobody seems to be around - and I'm missing you all. sob sob

Hear, hear Mags - and to anyone new, this chat board is a bit different from others, you have to keep pressing F5 to refresh the board .... otherwise you disappear never to return again! Mandy :)

I certainly think that there is a tendancy to use messenger to chat to friends that we have made on GR. I still go on chat but mainly in the evenings. We are a very friendly crowd and I haven't pounced on anyone for a while! lol We welcome newcomers to the board but it has to be said that if the board is very busy it is easy to miss someone if they only say hello and don't chime in again - sorry if this has happened to you. Give it another go! I have cried with laughter some evenings - if you get the mix right it's like a comedy show. I used to be put off by reams of 'I have just mailed you' and 'thanks for the mail' or 'haven't got it yet' etc etc. This rarely happens now - we do try to actually chat! I will say too, I am not criticising at all, that the General Topics Board has changed a lot since I first joined and that people tend to chat on the threads too. If you visit the Chat Board for the first time - stick with it. It is not an exclusive club but may very well seem like that when you first get there. Hang around and what seem like in jokes and code will soon make sense! See you there. Magsxx

Yes, do you remember a few months ago when some bored youngsters caused havoc on here in their lunch breaks? Stealing identities and all sorts!

Stephanie

Stephanie Report 1 Oct 2004 16:57

paul, maybe that may turn out to be an us and them situation???

not sure I agree with that one Elaine, I;ve used sites before where non members could post and you end up with groups of kids spoiling it.. takes too long to block the IP, you get too much disruption Maybe a non-members board ?

Lisa

Lisa Report 1 Oct 2004 16:55

if they did that.then they would not make the money on the upgrades.you need membership to reply to the membersxxxxx(:

I think the change in the amount of people who used CHAT, was because non paying members were allowed to use the boards. Since the rule has come in that only members can use it the numbers have dropped. Its a shame gr cant allow non members to use the general topics board. If there are problems with mis-use maybe gr can block the isp address its from, like other sites can. Elaine x

Unknown Report 1 Oct 2004 16:34

I still go on there - usually sometime between 8pm and 11pm. There are still 'regulars' to be found there - June, Lou, Jo from Essex, William, Michael K, Mags, Bob white van man, Sandra, 2 Annes, Diana - I haven't missed anybody on purpose, these were just the last people that I spoke to on there. In my humble opinion, there's been a very pleasant atmosphere on there lately. I would imagine it's just down to everybody's different working times. Mandy :)

thing about messenger is that I have loads of contacts from here on messenger, but still chat to them on the site.

Too true Ann And shortly after the Messenger word came up I think a lot of the rest of us felt a bit of a "clique" had been set up and fewer and fewer people went on to chat. Next thing I knew was that "the other site" had been set up and everyone had gone on there! Shame....because it altered everything on here. Dee :-((

When GC (as it was then) started the chat board was fantastic, really friendly and loads on there. Then someone mentioned messenger and lots of the regulars went on there and the chat board lost what it had. Now we chat more on this board, add that to those that go on messenger and i suppose the chat board has become superfluous. I never go there now. there used to be (to name a few). Myself, Max, Colin, Jim, William, George, Elizabeth M Jude, Kathleen, She Wray, Shelli, Theresa, Alfi, Ray. Ann Glos
