I know someone who has sent for this book and an "illustrated family tree" at an extra £50 containing the two most recent generations of your family! Not exactly rocket science is it. Reminds me of an incident in my local LDS FHS recently. An Australian on holiday came to do some research and was rather volubly complaining that he couldnt find a particular birth in the reg. The Assistant hlped him look, nothing there, then she said maybe he had the date wrong. No he didnt he said, he has a birth certificate for this person. We were all stunned into embarrassed silence by this, he was looking for someone born 1637! Assistant said did he mean perhaps a Baptism Certificate? Infuriated he pulled out an envelope to show us a Birth Certificate, dated blah blah 1637. It was on oldy worldy parchmenty A4, illustrated in oldy worldy Epson Inkjet colours in New Roman Type. Assistant asked him where he had got this - it was 100 dollars, off the internet! So watch out for that one too folks!

Thanks for this Deborah, My son has received the same letter as you from William Pince this morning also saying they can trace our tree back to 1625. Without your warning I think my son may have fallen for the trap. Thanks again Janet

Hi Debz, your right it is a scam, my dad was sent a letter from a publishing company telling us they could trace our Brosnan roots back 100's of years, and the price of all this wonderful history was around 52.00 but they were only charging 35.00 after a discount, and you only had 2 weeks to buy it. My dad was willing to pay half bless him, as he knows I have trouble tracing our Irish roots. Needless to say, I never bought the book. Belle

Our family have all been receiving letters from William Pince Publishers claiming to have The Family Chronicle going back to 1625. I knew straight away that this was wrong as our family name is a mispelling and is less than 200 years old. I've since checked this out and found it to be a scam. Looks like they are targetting ppl with unusual names so please don't send them any money if you get this letter. Debz
