Well mine live up in Stirling in Scotland and We are living Down in England but thats another bone of contention she slags off her own mother in law who actually died in 1977 and the thing she harps on about the most is that her M I L was a typical Glasgow woman and could start a fight in an empty house!! Excuse me??? I am from Glasgow as is my mother and father and grandparents etc etc.

My hubby shared a flat with mates for several years before we got married, so I never even took her baby away!! They remembered my birthday this year, but forgot it was my 40th (and I am the only daughter-in-law, shouldn't be difficult!), then they remembered our wedding anniversary but didn't realise it was our 20th - and they were the ministers who married us!!! Um, I wasn't going to add to this thread, was I? lol

Wow Lisa if I didnt know Barry was an only child I'd swear we have the same mother in law!! She thinks the sun shines out her neices backside and it doesnt!! She told us one day we had emabarrassed her neice because we gave each other a kiss in the park! I couldnt believe it and was tempted to say ..... Well I bet she wasnt half as embarrased as her father was when he was asked to step down from his position in the bowling club after she was caught having sex in the toilets there!!

LOL Lisa I did say dont get me started.... Another thing... she insists she wont babysit for young children. I have to say that she does have very bad arthirtis and is a very very large lady so cant run around after little ones etc. I go up to Scotland as often as poss so she can see her Grandson and last Halloween I was invited to my own cousins 30th Party but no kids could go! Jimmy was a few weeks off his 2nd birthday and she said there was no way she could mind him even though 14 year old daughter was going to be there! 3 months later darling neice wanted to go shopping so M I L babysat for not only her 3 children but also her other neices 3... Ages of children???? All Girls aged 12, 7, 3, then the youngest 2 were 16 weeks and 9 weeks old!!!

Thanks Joanne, I wondered when someone was going to come in on our side. My In laws are no longer with us and his Mumdied when she was only 48 so I only just knew her but she was lovely. And his Dad was Ok too. Hubby got on well with both my parents once we were married. My Daughter in law is lovely and I get on very well with son in law too. In fact we are going on holiday with daughter and family and this wont be the first time. I don't THINK I am a problem. Ann Glos

Jo I jump through hoops for M I L and am the one who pushes hubby to ring her and also I am the one who insists we never have a real holiday and we use all our spare time up by going up to visit.... I have children of my own Jo three of whom are sons and I always ask myself How I'd feel. I show her respect and although Hubby told her that if she ever got to the stage where she couldnt care for herself he'd put her in a home, I said over my dead body would she be stuck in a home and said I'd care for her! I still dont figure as much as her precious Great Neice!!

Ann would you like to adopt my hubby and be my mother in law please!! This doesnt come down to just being a mother in law its her as a person and unfortunately she just happens to be my mother in law too :-)

My daughter in law and I are so so different and it's such a shame as I would like us to be friends, after all we have something in common, Paul my son, her husband. Last year they made me a grandmother to a dear little boy. I love him to bits I really do. I don't see him very much at all and they only live half an hour away. I don't feel right about asking her if I can come over and see him. Jo.

In all fairness I have to say that my M I L did say that I was the best thing that ever happened to my hubby! She treats me well most of the time,, on my last visit as I packed everything into the car I looked back at her standing at the door and she waved and said Love You! I was about to just get in the car but then I ran back and hugged her and said Love You too! And deep down I do but she really does wind me up when she puts her Great Niece first all the time, especially when I know fact that her Neice does nothing but slag her behind her back and only uses her when she needs something. Maybe my angry would be better directed at the neice but when i do that Mum in law goes against me and I can hardley explain my anger without hurting mum in laws feelings!

Oh Joanne do ask just incase she thinks you dont care... she may be saying.. they only live half an hour away yet she never comes to see her grandson. I havent spoken to my m i l for two weeks now but I make sure that her Grandson speaks to her every other day and has done since he was born, he is almost three. I never have a film developed without getting an extra set of prints for Nana and I then post them straight up by special delivery, I also put together a 3 hour video of him and the other children to send her every few months and of course I take him up to Scotland and often as is possible. Although she grates on me I do appreciate that she loves her son and Grandson and after all I too could be a Granny some day. Shaz x
