i agree its very important to check. my dad just caught it in time a while ago. when i asked him if he was embarrassed to go to a doctor and say i've got trouble 'back there', he told me he'd rather be embarrassed than dead! which is a fair one i think! mind you, paul, i know some bosses at my place that have got their heads so far up there they could check themselves all day long!

Sad to say but you can have Prostate cancer without having any symptoms. You can have the PSA.test which is a blood test but this can sometimes give a false reading so you then need to have a biopsy done.Prostate cancer is slow growing so if you get it at 70 you probably wont die of it but rather with it as it can take 20 years to kill you. However you can get it before 50 so then you need to have treatment. My husband had radiation therapy 8 years ago.The seed implant wasnt as available back then unless you lived in US.Hes been fine with it and not as invading as surgery which can leave unpleasant side affects. So advise all men to have the blood test if over 50

I think the self-check technique is for testicular cancer, not prostate. IIRC the check for prostate cancer is a blood test. See your GP if you have any sympons like blood in urine, restricted flow, pain etc..

Lisa Report 5 Oct 2004 11:46

rosemary it is suprising to see that prostate cancer is on the increase.that is why men should check themselves and if anything is found can be caught earlyxxxxx(:

My father-in law was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year ago. He went on the web and discovered that there was a new technique for treating this form of cancer it is called SEEDING The centre of excellence for this treatment is in Surrey. The process actually involves planting radio active seeds right inside the cancer. The great advantage of this is that it only kills cancerous cells and does not harm healthy tissue.Although treatment for this type of cancer is not leasant the success rate is good and recovery quite quick. My father-in law is already riding and sailing again.
