I know what you mean Lisa - and try explaining it to people of my parents' generation. Dad mentioned at the weekend someone being 'coloured' and I told him you can't say that, you have to say 'black' now - and Dad said, quite rightly, but he's not black, he's light brown. So I said that you have to call him 'mixed race' then. He ended up being totally confused, and he had no intention at all of offending anyone.

I think that in general Muslim People are proud of their beliefs. And proud to be called muslim. Its when other people mix up religions eg muslim & Sikh, that people get offended E x

dan there was a thing about words that are deemed offensive for black people.according to this black man he says calling them coloured is offensive to them but black isn't.now i always thought that calling them black was abad name and i have always called them coloured.also to call a person half cast which i have always done is offensive aswell .they like to be called mixed race.and also muslims do not like being called muslims as the muslim word is associated with terrorism.they would like to be called mixed race.i think they should bring out a dictionary for white people so they kknow what to say not too offend and not what to say if they do!x(:

One of my sons is considered to be disabled although he isnt wheelchair bound, however he isnt considered to be handicapped. I dont know what people are supposed to say to describe someone who his physically or mentally challenged. Shaz :-)

It's definitely pc gone too far. My boss, a headteacher, was really cross when someone used the term 'handicapped' instead of 'disabled'. Sorry, but I really couldn't see the difference myself.

Many years ago, in the last millennium, I worked for The Spastics Society. We spent a lot of time discussing changing the name (it's now Scope) and I met all kinds of people who had different views. One of them said he loathed all this pc bullshit and would prefer to be called "what I am - a cripple". Other options mooted by people were - handicapped/disabled/differently abled/wheelchair user/physically challenged/ - the list was endless.

http://news*bbc.co*uk(/)1/hi/magazine(/)3708576*stm I never thought that the terms`handicapped` or wheelchair- bound` were offensive. The others are obviously, but I was very surprised to see wheelchair-bound in the top 10.
