Hi Paul and everybody wanting to quit ciggies. I gave up the dreaded weed in 1993 after 40 years of 30 a day. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, (I'd prefer having teeth out with no anaesthetic), but it was really worth it. Here's how I increased my will-power: On Friday when I got home from work, I put the price of a week's cigarettes, (10 packs), in a jam jar and left it on the mantlepiece where I could see it. I made a solemn promise that if I wanted a smoke, I'd take the money out of the jar, not my pocket. Every time I had the pangs of nicotine deprevation I looked at the jar and the money looked sooooooooo good that I managed to keep my promise. At the end of the month I paid the money into a new savings account called 'Holidays'. I still do this and nowadays, (allowing for inflation), I pay in £200 a month. (40 packs at £5). This is £2400 a year, which is lot of lolly! Since quitting my wife and I have been to India, Canada and almost every European country. It's better than watching money go up in smoke! Hope this helps you would-be quitters, best of luck from Bernie.

Well done all of you ,better putting on a few pounds that you can lose at a later date ,than finding that you are one of the unlucky ones that smoke and find you have something that you can't get rid of so easily. I was a lucky one ,i didn't find it too hard ,and can now breathe easily ,feel better and can enjoy my food [taste ,and smell] again.Fred.ptfg.

WELL DONE EVERYONE!!! I gave up nearly 2 years ago. I also read Allen Carr first - everything he says is right, but you have still got to be ready in your head. I set a date about 3 months ahead so I could be really prepared. Oh, don't worry about putting on weight - you can deal with that later when you feel fitter and can actually do some exercise without worrying if you are going to keel over. My doctor told me "the single most important thing you can do for your health is to stop smoking - nothing else is as important" Maz. XX

anna thats what i thought beacause as lisa and manda will tell you i REALLY like going to the pub! i actually enjoy the pub more now than i ever did! its been about a month now. not sure what date i stopped because if you have diaries and target dates and stuff it increases the pressure. as soon as you realise that your life will be better without them than with them its easy! x

I gave up 16 years ago. Came out of the hospital after having a scan and finding I was 6 weeks pregnant and threw ciggies and lighter in the bin. Not touched one since. Jacky 0:-)

How long have you been off the fags Paul? Ive tried to stop so many times but have no willpower. I decided to stop again on Saturday so I bought 3 packets of Nicorette chewing gum,it says you can use up to 15 pieces aday, but so far,ive only had 3 pieces a day,and only a couple of cravings for a fag(when I wake u mostly). Not smoked a cigarette since Friday night. I hope I stay off them this time lol,I guess the hardest test will be when I have alcohol lol Anna :-)
