while in a sports shop yesterday, YES a sports shop, which sells fireworks!!!!!! They had a big display but they also had a sign stating that fireworks couldn't be brought until 15 Oct. This is still almost 3 weeks earlier than bonfire night. Still not wokred out why a sports shop was selling them in the first place???????????????

I HATE FIREWORKS! They should be banned except possibly for well organised displays and these should only be on actual bonfire night - I live in a terrace that backs onto another row of terraces and on either side a row of terraces making a closed oblong so when fireworks are let off they reverberate around the oblong - extending the awful noise making it sound like we are in the middle of a bombardment. All of this noise is agravating for me but my poor cats are terrified - especially poor Arthur who sits on the stairs and shakes until they finish - which around here can be 3.00 in the morning. I SAY BAN THE BEEP THINKS! AND SKIN THE B's WHO SET THEM OFF.

I don't think this law will work, as soon as the culprits see the police they will run away (thats if the police appear). My house backs onto heathland, and during October/November its a nightmare, there are loads of kids overthere, apart from harming themselves there is the added danger of catching the Heath alight. My dog is terrified of fireworks and for about 2 months of the year he is a nervous wreck I don't know what the answer is apart from banning them altogether. Sue

yes i knew about the new law, but it seems ever since its came in, here, every weekend somebody is letting them off, which is not funny if you have cats, plus what is the need to let them off apart from the usual times. drives me mad,LOL.

They do catch mobile phone users When the rule first came in, alough hubby uses hands free in the car & work lorry, his firm had swapped it for another lorry, WITHOUT a hands free kit. I rang him (not knowing this) and he automaticly picked up the phone to answer me (& to say he wasnt on hands free & he'd phone me back when he could) When a police car stopped him. So it resulted in a fine. So now if he hasnt hands free in his lorry for whatever reason I get warned not to phone, or if I do he will ring me back when hes stopped. Elaine x

What happens when a new 'law' comes out? People just ignore it. How many people have you seen using their mobile phones clamped to their ears in their cars since it was banned. Jo.

Have just read about a new law, giving Police the power to fine firework abusers, an instant £80 fine on the spot!.
