I remember a tornado in Chiswick in 1952 (Coronation year). It took the roof off Gunnesbury Station and damaged lots of houses. Bob

It did get a bit rough down here last night! In the last few years there have been quite a few reports of mini tornado's, twice in Selsea. Sheila

I think, technically, they agreed it wasn't a 'hurricane', as these are specific to the Tropics, but that it was 'hurricane-force winds' as per the Beaufort scale. I was in the thick of it, in Bournemouth and the noise was incredible - a constant 'screaming'!

Kevin i thought it was a hurricane ! i was only a tot, but my mum told me all bout it, it ripped down the trees in our street and took of roofs aswell! surely a gale isnt strong enough to cause that damage??

It's almost the anniversary of that terrible hurricane of 1987, when the south/southeast suffered really bad weather. Like Fred says it's just that time of year. I do hope they don't get worse each year though.

You see Tornados all the time in this country ,mostly this time of year ,spinning the leaves around in the streets and whatever, but they are tiny, but maybe ,with the global warming and changing weather system they will get bigger and become a matter for concern ,but i do hope not . I think we should be more concerned this winter with the icy conditions and sub zero temperatures we are told to expect.Fred.ptfg.
