For birthdays I will often get something that I have said I wanted but Christmas is still for surprise presents. Hubby will never let me know what I have and each year comes up with something new with no help! We say each year we will get something we both want in the sales as a joint pressie but have never managed to yet. We always get each other lots of bits including a tree pressie. Last year I had a 3 book set of The Doomsday Book included in my gifts. My daughter at 15 still loves Christmas morning as the pressies are all laid out under the tree and no one wants to see them until the day - I go to bed last on 24th to lay them out. After 33 years of mariage I can't see us changing now. Jacky :-)

I know we're mad but my 3 adult children still have a Christmas stocking/pillowcase left in their room.We have a grandson, now aged 9 living with us so probably it's been carried on partly for his enjoyment. They get the various shampoo, conditioner and shower gel that they prefer plus other toiletries. Also might get underwear, choccies and a fun/quirky something. Proper present is wrapped and placed under the tree. For birthdays we often go out shopping on the prior weekend. They choose something and I pay. For myself I have hinted at certificates I'd like, -don't have to dust them and they don't take much space.

Yes Heather, I seem to get a lot of HMV, vouchers etc, which they always need, but don't know what to put with them!..

Do you prefer to receive gifts, money or vouchers? My grown up children sometimes like to have money if they're saving up for something expensive but then I feel I've missed out on the pleasure of buying and wrapping a gift and giving them a surprise. Heather
