A Hoover Constelation - you remember the little round ones that you drag around the room. We bought it 34 years ago and although we now have a Dyson indoors the little Hoover sits out in the garage and is used for the car.

Washing machine's just blown up (11 years old). Fridge freezer is dying. Cooker hood died yesterday. PC's exploded twice this year. Table lamp blew up last week and the portable tv in the bedroom now refuses to recognise ITV. Only thing left is the damned tv in the living room that was a wedding present 10 years ago from mother-in-law and has a life of its own. It's the tv from hell and I've been waiting for it to explode for years so I have an excuse to get rid of it. But no, its the one electrical thing in our house that refuses to die. Angela

The electric fire is about 34 years old. The blender was a similar vintage and finally gave up the ghost this year: nothing to do with the motor, the plastic died. Elizabeth, my mum had a similar hairdrier. I used to be fascinated by its stand, a natty little wire affair. You fitted a plastic hood over your hair, attached the other end over the drier and sat back for that salon look (burnt scalp, frizzled hair). Brenda

Don't know if they come under the term appliances but still have a Grundig reel to reel tape recorder that was my Dad's in the 50's and still working great, and it's lovely to listen to my Mum, who died 29 years ago and us as kids. Then there's the 8mm projector with all the old films from when I was young. In the loft there's carmen rollers and a Hanimex "pong" games consul from the 70's and a "minicine" children's projector from the 50's. Yes, I am a hoarder! Christine

I have a Singer sewing machine bought when I was at school 34 years ago! Still works and my 14 yr old daughter is using it now for school project! The Electrolux freezer is 26 yrs old and still going strong. Our microwave (Phillips) is about 20 yrs old, its massive, wont buy new smaller one, because it still works. Last month it finally died (we thought) but a new fuse revived it, my husband hates the sight of it and was very disappointed! Then there is a tele which is 21 yrs old and my son of the same age has taken it to his student digs! The coffee pot is Russel Hobbs vintage 1978 and was a wedding present, still used today, although the ceramic pot with hippy flowers looks a bit dated! Oh and my husbands hi-fi bought 2nd hand 33 years ago, and still usable!

The oldest working electrical appliance I've got is my Nan's old Singer sewing machine. Grandad bought it for her in 1938 and I have the original receipt. It was a treadle machine until Nan had it converted to electricity in the early 1950s. She was a dressmaker and it has seen some service! Nowadays I use my 4 year old multi stitch sewing machine, but if I need some heavy duty straight stitching, out comes the old Singer! My Kenwood Chefette was a wedding present in February 1968 and I still use that for light mixing jobs, but mostly I use my Kenwood Chef which was bought in 1970. I've just had to buy a new washing machine after my 3 year old Hoover gave up yet again! I've gone back to an Indesit as at least my previous ones lasted longer than 3 years!!! Sue
