I have to say I am amazed at the number of people favouring an Irish accent. Being from the North I love a soft southern accent, our Belfast accent can be a bit harsh. And thank you Lynda my friend, one more visit and I reckon you too will speak like this!!!

I also love the Irish accent, Southern preferably but Northern too. My son-in-law comes from Ballymena and I could listen to him all day! Although he has lived in England since a boy his accent is still quite strong, especially after he's been 'back home' for a while! During the course of my work I often speak to a man whose family have lived in Surrey, around the Dorking area, for centuries. When I first spoke to him I thought his accent was unusual, a bit West Country maybe, but it is an old Surrey accent. Some of his pronunciation is almost impossible to understand, especially over the phone and we often laugh about it. My elder daughter (with the Irish husband) is Epsom, Surrey born and bred, but people often ask her if she's from the West Country. Since tracing my husband's ancestors, I found out they are all Devonians on his father's side. The genes will out! Sue

I lOVE THE Geordie accent. If I phone my catalogue and one of their girls has a Geordie accent I tell her how I love the sound of it. I know that they don't have time really to chat, but we always have a bit of a giggle and a brief chat. Highland Scots is beautiful and soft and I also like the Southern Irish accent. Not the gutteral tones of Paisley I'm afraid in the North.
