Fantastic. Very moving. Could instantly see how alike Amanda and Karen looked. I just love the interesting stories and the way they are able to follow it through on the programme - London to Falmouth to Ireland to Liverpool and back. Would be interesting to know if Cyril's birth cert had now been found under his original surname. Maz. XX

Boo'd my eye's out when Karen met her "family". Valley, Could it be that Billl Oddie & Amanda Redman are different with their emotions? also what camera angles were taken? Loved both episodes so far, 2 completely different personalities regarding how they reacted. But those guy's at the end??? come on!!! no info for any newbies, all you got was "yes we had a problem as there was no birth cert for Cyril" I know how us lot would solve that problem , but someone just starting out could trace the wrong tree? Program is brill, don't get me wrong, but the advisors at the end are................???

Kim, I agree. I was thinking they should have a bit more information for the new people who are becoming interested in family history rather than a rushed five minutes at the end discussing what had happened in the celebrity's search. I have enjoyed watching it so far though. Mel

Interesting again and like with last week, it would seem they are targeting the poignant element in the stories that unfurl. As I said last week, it's this story element that the Beeb appear to be concentrating on most, rather than getting caught up too much in the actual genealogy knowhow/jargon. I think they're doing the right thing, if the aim of this exercise is to get more people wanting to trace their roots. Once the interest is there then people will want to question further about where you need to look and what you need to check. You have to get people's attention first and there's little point getting bogged down in too much technical information until that point is reached.

Well said Andy, those are my feelings exactly. I know lots of people have said there should be more about how the celebs traced their trees, but how boring would it be to watch them pressing a button on a computer to order their certificates? Besides, we all know they have a team of researchers to do that for them. The strength of the programme is putting across the story that unfolds as the research progresses, it is more on the human interest side- and most of us can relate to the emotions that the celebs go through. It is nice to see that 'real' relations are featured too, it is not just about celebs being celebs. I thought the part at the end where Amanda threw a party and invited all the new found rellies was lovely!!!

I really enjoyed Amanda Redman's search - I thought it was more interesting than Bill Oddie's! I too would like to know if Cyril's birth certificate has been found under the other name. Perhaps Trevor can tell us please? Looking forward to Sue Johnson's programme next week. Sue

I'm adicted to the program, it is made to show what can be unearthed, as most people who are intereseted, know where to look they only skim over that bit, and for those who want to start, then they do advertise the BBC site, it gives you a lot of info also pages to note down the cert's and the pedigree chart, so I think they have got the balance right. :))) Bev

Jo, you and I were watching at the same time - I've just seen the video lol! I enjoyed this episode more than Bill Oddie's (sorry Bill!). Everyone has noticed the incredible likeness between Amanda and Karen, but I also thought that Karen looked like Amanda's mum too - she was the sort of link in looks between Amanda and her mum. And Trevor was lovely too - nice to meet you Trev!! Mandy :))
