I know a lot of you out there will have more ideas than I have. I want to trace my Uncle. I found his birth certificate, but that is all. He may have joined one of the forces at the outbreak of WW 11, when he would have been 24. After the war he completley disapeared. Even his mother (my Nan) never knew what happened to him. Any help with starting this search would be gratefully received. Thanks, Jo.

Do you know for sure that he survived the war? Have you checked the Commonwealth War Graves site? Could you check for a marriage in GRO and for subsequent children listed with his surname and the right maiden name once you had checked his marriage certificate?

Yes I have tried the CWGC- nothing. Is'nt it so frustrating all this geneology? Thanks. Jo.

Jo, do you have any idea of the area he came from before the war? Only I have been helping my sister in law trace her grandmother's death - and we finally got there last week. Gwyneth suggested I write to the local council, who have a very good bereavement services unit. They were able to tell us that she actually died in 1940 and gave us the grave number as well. Might be a long shot, but it's the best I could come up with. Good luck, Mandy :)
