How often are censuses released for viewing?

They are done every 10 years (although not one in 1941) and are released after 100 years. The most recent is 1901, you can trace on electoral registers in your local library though. jacquie

I have only just started to trace my family tree and I know this may be a silly and simple question to most of you but could someone explain to me how often censuses are undertaken and how long before they get released? I thought it was every 100 years but really don't know.
