If you visit the website http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/ it says if there's any group visits due on various days, so you can avoid really busy times. I've found when I go its fine - great during the summer hols! If you are planning a visit, and you have London ancestors, its worth knowing that the London metropolitan archives is 5 minutes walk away from the FRC, but it's only open 2 Saturdays a month, so check times before you visit. http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/leisure_heritage/libraries_archives_museums_galleries/lma/ It's got stacks of stuff, books, parish records, maps etc etc. nell

Yesterday we went to London and booked into a hotel before having a quick visit to the FRC in Myddleton street. It was absolutely amazing, with volumes upon volumes of information. Today we returned to the frc and gathered most of the information we needed. I would like to say that we have a marvellous time in the evening, eating out and having a look around china town. If anyone is thinking of going there, then I recommend going the night before and booking into either of the Travelodges which are within 5 minutes walking distance of the frc. We found the taxi drivers very helpful, even telling us to cross over and get a taxi from the other side of the road as it would be cheaper. Eating out was more or less the same price as at our local restaurants. The only thing we found was that the frc gets very busy and we were waiting in the queue outside from 8.30am for it to open at 9.00am. there is a reasonably priced snack hall (vending machines) with fresh sandwiches, choccies and hot/cold drinks. It is a really good day out.
