I used to dislike people calling my husband "Van" when we lived in England. His name is Johan, and really in English John. But some people thought if you came from the Netherlands then all the Dutch were "Van". I wonder who has the most forenames (for those who don't want us to refer to Christian names!). Sylvia xxx

Bec

Bec Report 26 Oct 2004 14:54

I don't mind Rebecca. It can be a bit tedious as people always seem to struggle with the spelling, I've only seen a few alteratives: Rebbeca Rebbecca Rebekah I prefer the way my name is spelt. What I find mildly annoying is that my sister's name is Rachel! I have met and heard of so many sisters called 'rebecca and rachel'. It's as if they cannot co-exist without each other!! Becx

Kim from Sandhurst

Kim from Sandhurst Report 26 Oct 2004 13:12

The Kim is ok, Tracey is good for a laugh though, as I was born in Essex. But glad I was a girl as my name was not going to be changed if I was a boy, can you imagine what stick I would have got then!!!

hehe Diana, i am the opposite to you. bugs me when people add an a on the end or an extra n! its no big deal though. i prefer to shorten my name but thats because i am lazy and its so much easier typing Di rather than Diane;) Di

When I was little I changed my name to Bubbles. Thought it was so pretty! My neighbour always called me Annette because it was his favourite name and thought it suited me better than Lorraine. If I could choose a name it would be Jasmine. Elfx PS Gladys - that is a lovely name. My neighbour's little girl was named that.

Well I hated my name as a child, It was an old fashioned name for the era I was born in which was 1966. Many other Elaines That I personally know (not many I may add! ) are in their fifties/sixties now. Apparently I was named after a distant cousin Barbara Elaine. (no not found her yet lol) and my name was reversed to be Elaine Barbara. I was the only Elaine in my senior school year. Many thought Elaine couldn't be shortened but I still get called "E". Kids popular names in my year were:- ( I left school in 1982) Jenny--Sue---Joanna----Julie----Jackie----Tracy Paul....John....Peter....Andrew....Mark.... Elaine x (aka E x )

PinkDiana Report 26 Oct 2004 09:25

I love my name.... not sure I'm impressed when people shorten it to Diane.... or Di as that sounds like a request but all in all it's not a hassle....

Stephanie Report 26 Oct 2004 09:21

I dont mind my name really. Being called Steph isnt too bad, but my mum doesnt like people calling me Steph, i was always known as Stephie, and Stephie Jane by my Grandad. Then since my sister called me Steedie thats what everyone now knows me as. But its Stephanie when people are angry with me! ;-) xxx

Mines grown on me LOL I would have liked to have been something pretty and unusual. I was born in the 60's along with so many deborah's, Karens, Tracey's and SHARON'S - they all sound so dreadful. My sisters got nice names Heather & Louise. I would have like to have been called Hazel or Maria or something other than deborah : ( lol Much happiness Debi

Didn't like mine as a kid, but now I quite like it. Prefer the less formal Bernie though, that's what my wife calls me.

McDitzy

McDitzy Report 26 Oct 2004 07:50

I used to like mine, but then it got all popular on me!! I was so used to be the only Chloe, and I still turn around when someone calls it out, but they're usually talking to a little girl. The other girls name I might have had is Charlotte. Glad I'm a Chloe and not a Charlotte though (no offence meant to any Charlottes out there). Was annoying, and still is annoying when people spell my name all wrong. Loads of people spell it Chole, or I've even had a few Klowe!! Chloe

Ramblin Rose

Ramblin Rose Report 26 Oct 2004 07:13

No,I'm not. I actually hate my christian name. My two grandmothers argued about what I should be called, one wanted Primrose, her family surname, and the other chose Rosemary. My maternal grandmother won and promptly gave me seven names, one of every queen she could remember. I see myself as Kate and for years when working in HERTS I was called Kate. But I also like Hannah Can you imagine teaching as a Miss Crewe, Yes you've got it

Debbie Report 26 Oct 2004 01:08

Rachel Why does it bother you when they add a A to it? So do you think it bothers people that you dont have a A in yours? I think with a A is so much nicer. I just cannot understand the people that dont spell it RACHAEL which is a very pretty name. I think without the A is just so PlainThink about it Usualy Michael is spelt with the A without it it is Michel which is just totaly different.
