Barry welcome, go to the tips board and search websites their is a great list of sites to look at, on the birth cert is mothers maiden name and fathers name start searching these and get their wed cert which again will give fathers names, then start searching the census 1901 to find them, and work backwards. If you get stuck just ask and one of us will point you in the right direction, the records board is great to ask for lookups and tips will give you advice if you ask a question, the general board you may get a request lost as its fast moving with general chitchat. happy hunting sandra

Hi Barry, they call me Mhuirrich. I started about 20 years ago. One of the best site now is http://worldconnect(.)genealogy(.)rootweb(.)com/ I have found it invaluable.

New to all this, but what a task I've got! Trying to find out about my grandad and my relatives. I've got his birth certificate-George Smith DOB 05/05/1888 Hull. But he was buried in the name of Clixey or Clicksby 1953. He went to prison at sometime for bigamy.Does anybody know where I should start looking, can't seem to find anything out about him or the two family's.
